Sounds like you were "seeing" the boxes instead of "seeing through them". If you were focused on the box rather than what's after it... yeah, you wouldn't have enough time to make things happen.

To me it looks like Steve got a stupid small amount ahead in the middle of the slaloms which kept him ahead after that. After the return side cross over, I caught up to him but he kept his 0.037 lead. But regardless, great consistent driving Steve. I think you were better at keeping the rear in place on the last quarter of the course right after the last option where as I would get wiggly in the rear and lose time when trying to gain some speed in that section.

Daniel, at this point you have a sharp left steering input, maybe your looking ahead and see the next gate, but you should have been hard on the throttle and let the car go right. IMHO that is where you lost a couple tenths.

Are you talking about the first option going left or right. You saying I should've went right instead of left?

Nope, at the exact instant of that screen shot you turn the wheel to the left for no apparent reason. Except you may have been looking far ahead to the second gate and not seen the gate closest to you.

Causing you to be late here, nearly running over the green cone and that screwed up the first 3 cones of the slalom. I bet that cost you a half second.

Yeah, the general theme of that run was late, late, late. My 7th run was going to be the "it" run for sure, but I got greedy and decided to try for 3rd gear instead of rev limiting at the finish. I missed 3rd and blew my best run.

Ah ok I get what you're saying Joe. I've been having a staying tight mindset for a little bit and trying to create less distance than I have to. Steve's run he ran out further right and we both got to the slalom at the same time.

P.s I told you ben it wasnt worth shifting for the finish .

Had a great time do-driving the Mirage for the first time. Since most of my autocross experience has been front wheel drive with my Mazda 3 it felt relatively familiar, but much more planted due to the modified and improved suspension. Loren, you've done a great job making the car handle. I never drove it in the early days, but I remember your concerns about it's stability on the stock suspension. There was no hint of any of those problems yesterday in competition.

I hit way too many cones, but at least my cone hitting seemed to trend in the right direction with 3 cones on my first run, then 2 cones for a few runs then down to 1...
My only clean run was when I took a purposefully cautious run to make sure I got a clean time on the board. It seems strange hitting so many cones since the Mirage is one of the physically smallest cars on the grid, definitely smaller than my Mazda 3 so I think it's due to the more responsive steering than I am used to. I'm used to my car's slower reactions and washing out more, I just need to adapt and it will improve with a little more seat time.

Unfortunately I don't have any video to post, despite having my Gopro on board for most of the runs. We tried to get some cool shots of the front wheel in action during Loren's last runs and the vacuum mount decided to give up half way through the first slalom. This ended up with the case self destructing as it hit the ground and the memory card being spit out never to be seen again along the way Oh well, sh!t happens! I will take a look at it in due course and see if it can be resurrected for future events.

Not trying to beat a dead horse but I think this is important. Look at Loren's line, he got to the right and is turning in early to backside the first cone, what a nice view.
Ben is too far left and can never backside that cone, Dan is a little better but still not far enough right early enough to backside the cone. Dan is in almost the same place as Loren but headed straight while Loren is headed left on the right line.
I am constantly talking about back siding important cones when I walk the course with people and many think I over think it, but getting it right at this position makes the next 4 cones easy.
