Here is an odd one...not quite the correct thread, but a previous project of mine...my old car is being advertised on Ebay. Feels a bit weird seeing it...owned 11 years, countless autocrosses, dozens of road course visits, dragstrip runs, and lots of blood sweat and tears. Of course the finale was two One Lap of America attempts with the second winning our class and 9th out of 82 cars/teams. Surprising how badly the add is written...missing all the important points! Weird though...

Tim,
Thanks for sharing. The guy did include all the racing records/some build sheets in the many pix attached to the ad. Apparently has all your records too. He's selling it for a dead guy in NE. Too bad Philip couldn't have just driven it home (after racing it) from Lincoln. Looks a lot different without the winning stickers. $8500 Buy now. Insurance shouldn't be more than 2 grand for a youngster?

This was mind altering until I re-read your only performance mod so far. Guess the engine is still strong!! That's as fast as a C5 and only 200lbs more wt.!!Tim_M wrote:Can you hear it??? On its way to a 13.27 @ 109 mph...more left in it after its first post project trip to the strip...over 2 seconds dropped!
"And finally, to update the ratio to a more fitting performance 3.91 gear vice the auto's 3.23...still using the original 230,000 mile limited slip..."
Amazing father/son project!! Spending time now is better than doing time later for sure.

Pretty sure these have more to do with that strip time. Gears alone won't do that.Tim_M wrote:Well, another improvement was made...and project success!

Nope. 240HP/3300lb the right tires could easily do a 13.3 with around a 4:1 rearend. AND we know he replaced the power to the engine.
He's just that good!! And now he has an apprentice wizard.

You folks are too kind! I gave a hint...but not good audio on the video...the music of 8 cylinders beats away beneath bonnet.
We replaced this:

With this out of a junk truck:

Majority of the project centered around this mess:

And this...full disassembly and refresh of the Chevrolet 5.3 liter L33 (aluminum block) 310 HP truck motor:

He laid the crank/bearings:

He cleaned the pistons:

Filed the ring gaps:

Slid the Hot Rod cam in (only upgrade on the engine...mild upgrade which returns 410 HP in this application!):

Buttoning up the bottom end with a Camaro oil pan:

And topping the engine with cleaned OEM heads (same head as a Corvette LS6):

And slid it into place...

We did back it up with a solid 6 speed trans along with an aftermarket EFI.
It will be a very fun car to learn to drive...
Ultimately, my not-yet-driving-age assistant built the engine from start to finish...most proud of that fact!

Nope didn't even know that was a video and even when I did watch/listen to it the red Chevy left you sittin in a pile of noise.
So there's a lot left in that engine that your son built. Damn. Journeyman not apprentice. Didn't see a GM3 coming at all.

Sorry about the video...not sure why it didn't load as one would expect.
I've never attempted a cross pollination engine swap nor LS build. Both quite a bit out of my comfort zone. It has turned out better than I expected. Of course we did not blaze any new trails...many of the swaps been done previously - lots of info on forums. We just plagiarized...
The engine swap took 120 days start to finish...we continue to work out the details.
It will run in the 12's as it sits once we add a tachometer (shifting on the speedo is not easy), add more than 38 psi fuel (supposed to be 58!), cooler temps, pull the spare, something other than aged Firestone radials, etc.
Would like to get it to a dyno and then autocross before the snow flies (for us).
Pretty amazing what you can buy for $1400 - all aluminum 410 HP engine (when you add a camshaft). Weighs the same as OEM 6 cylinder/automatic combination (3237 no fuel/people). I'm a believer in the E36...
