Today I found out first hand how damn tough M4 is! Got my rear end handed to me 5th place in class out of six. Still, can only get better from here On the positive side it reaffirmed how much fun the Mirage is to drive, I just have to work on implementing the push harder, suck less philosophy. We all know the car has the pace for a class win - great job Loren!

Loren, I think I will ask for you to ride along for a few more runs next time, I need to soak up all the wisdom I can get in driving a slow car fast.

As always I had a blast. There were some quick times put down out there today- Ben, great job on the S4 win in your Fiesta! And Taylor, congrats on a top three finish first time out in your Miata.

For some reason that video looks speed up. Or maybe you're just that fast!

Fun course! Really wish I hadn't had that moment of stupidity on my fastest run where I half assedly stopped for a downed cone then changed my mind. I'm not sure exactly how much time that cost me, but I'm absolutely certain it was more than the 0.021 that Joe beat me by.

New car definitely doesn't suck, but I guess I'm gonna have to do some minimal stock class prep to beat the old guy...

Okay, here it is, 39.342 in the Mirage. This was my 2nd run. First run was with Dan riding shotgun. This is one of two runs that I used 3rd gear on. I really should have stuck with that, I'm just not used to being in 3rd with this car! And my slalom was AWFUL! Not smooth at all, no rythm.

Hmmmm. I did the whole course in 1st gear with an auto. I heard a lot of talk about 3rd gear usage and turbos. Interesting. Think it has a lot to do with gear ratios and dead wt to come up with 5 seconds. The top guy in S3 only beat me by 2.1 sec. M might be pushing the MPH limit beyond 55.

Fun course. Totally should do it again. Phillip hates it, so that makes it better for everyone else.

Had a Hackett smashing run going on run 5, until I grabbed 4th gear in the turn-around. Turns out, not the best choice.

This is interesting. I think my driving is a lot better in this run, but because I stayed in 2nd, it's a little slower. (still 39.6) I should have committed to 3rd gear on my final run.

It may be sped up somehow. The time in the upper left counts the time of the run okay, but it does look weird. I just took it out of the camera and posted it.

I need to get one of the tech-savvy younger folks to look at my camera.

Another great FAST event. Great course, definitely would like to see that one come back in the future. Had to knock off about two years of rust. Throwing away two runs is not the way to succeed in M1.....

After seeing how deep the talent ran in S1 (unless it rained) I wasn't up for it on old tires so stuck in S3 on old tires in the dry Ron your camera must have a "fast-mo" setting instead of a slo-mo. It was very entertaining When I started driving like "normal Philip" on that course with no brakes, until each end, it really flowed. His car is probably down on power due to age and use is all. Some folks don't have a dedicated xcross car.

The difference between a C5 and a C6 is evolutionary rather than revolutionary. The chassis is nearly exactly the same and they are similar enough that the suspension parts are actually interchangeable. The biggest performance advantage my car would have over Joe's is the wider rear track and tires, but that wider rear track has both benefit and detriment in an autocross situation and comes at a cost of almost 200 lbs more mass. Beyond that I have a engine with a bit more displacement/torque/horsepower (almost completely negated by the extra mass), a better shifting transmission and a nicer interior. If you have any doubts about how a C5 Z06 stacks up against C6 in an autocross just have a look at nationals results and look at AS where the cars are combined and compete against each other. Short answer, the C5Z is the winner the past couple years even against C6Zs which are both lighter and more powerful than my GS.

I don't have any video, but my fast run looked a lot like Loren's 39.6 run...except for I didn't do any shifting.

Bill's latest round of suspension tweaks once again have improved the car. This time around, I'll credit the rear alignment (he posted about it somewhere) which got rid of some toe-out (yeah, ...out). Needless to say, that tamed the back of the car a fair bit in rapid transitions (but it'll still swing if you try hard enough ). It did bring back a bit of understeer in turn-around situations, but we'll be able to drive around that next time... Overall, just better.

We're gonna try to squeeze one more event out of the tires. All that's left of the tread is two longitudinal grooves... they've worn quite evenly (with rotations and a flip).

Rear alignment, you say? I'm pretty sure mine is massively toed in, and non-adjustable.

Maybe I should look into modding something to fix that?

So never bring a great track car to an autocross? Note that Joe was running with only one DRL working.
