TodB wrote:Great event!! I always have fun with the FAST club..........but how did I end up with FTD??? Like 4 guys were faster then me! They all hit cones and I didn't...........does that mean I "Push Harder, Suck Less" or just got lucky

That would be the "suck less" part.

After some inspection and poking around this afternoon, it's not an alternator problem. The problem was, and I couldn't see it while the car was running, was that the belt was slack. This probably caused the power steering dropouts I had yesterday. It appears that the tension bolt (part of the alternator mount) had come loose and worked it's way out a bit. So that's all taken care of, and properly torqued to boot.
Scott, I wish that you and Mary were there... It would have been nice to commandeer your electric scooter for the day.

Apparently I ran my car a little too hard at this event. I was on my way to work yesterday when all of a sudden my check engine light started flashing at me and then my car shook violently and died. Had to have it towed cuz it wouldn't drive after that. Just found out today that I have bent valves which were most likely caused by the high revving at the event. Not sure if it's gonna be covered under warranty or not just yet. Insurance company has to come inspect it first and determine if it's covered or not.
Either way this event was definently a lot of fun. Everything ran smoothly and the course was really nice and flowing, even though my driving wasn't lol.

Bent valves don't usually happen from simply high-revving. Every modern car has a rev-limiter to prevent that. (if THAT is what caused your problem, it should definitely be covered under warranty) Bent valves are more likely with the botched-shift scenario. Like when you rev out 2nd and grab 1st instead of 3rd (difficult) or the more common top of 3rd grabbing 2nd instead of 4th... which I seem to recall was not an uncommon thing for those Celicas to do back in the day.
Hope the warranty will cover you, but wouldn't be surprised if they don't. The less you tell them, the better.

Sounds like I missed a good one! I ended up scheduled at the salt mine.
I did however pass a caravan in the middle lane on 75, right by the fowler exit, on my way to said saltmine, a black suv sporting a FAST sticker trailing a couple red mazda's appeared to heading to Bville
That black SPEED3 that zoomzoomed by is a heavy pig compared to the snotsucker
BUT it is a rippin fast pig!!!!!

Good job, Brian. I always knew you had it in you.

I hope it will. I know i hit the rev limiter a few times at the event, but all my shifts were fine, so i don't know. Guess I'll just have to wait and see. Thanks for the info though Loren

I(and my car) usually prefer slightly faster courses but this course was fun too.
Great event Jamie and supporting cast.
Kenny,
I sprung an exhaust leak at Sunday's event that made the car sound like our Suby's used to
It looks like my manifold nuts were loose, might just need re-torqued and I won't have to take the turbo/manifold off to replace a gasket.
Removing that stuff is NOT a fun affair on a SR so I'm crossing my fingers the other nuts are as loose as the few I checked and that closes up the leak.

Pssst... this course was on the ragged edge of being too fast as it was. The airport wants us to keep it under 60, as does our insurance company. The mighty Yaris hit 57 mph on this course... obviously, faster cars went faster than that. 8)

No cars exceeded 60 mph, not a one.

Hey Charles, I'm pretty certain I saw you and Jeremy both driving back from B-ville Sunday...took the country back roads, I see. A buddy and I passed by on our two-wheelers.

It would have been nice to go under 50 sec, but it would have definitely helped my recovery time on Sunday. I was hobbling around for most of the day.

I'm sure I was probably the only Viper Red 240 on that road on Sunday
I noticed the scooters....... speaking of, it's time to change the oil on mine and start riding again before its 95 degs.

Thanks to Tod, Carl and Keith for helping me replace my belts at the event. I blew the belt for the alternator and water pump during my third run. They helped me fix it and I was able to complete my runs, although I ended up 1 short. I should have had a rerun on the run I was scored for a DNF. I stopped for a downed cone.
Anyway, I had a blast competing with Tod and Keith for FTD. Keith and I both lost out because we couldn't get a clean run.
