In fact, it's swayed me to put myself firmly behind the notion of dropping 3 events per season.
We have 27 "regulars" and we should do what we can to cater to them.
+1 .... I've been swayed from 2 to 3.......I'm a numbers kinda guy.....and the math adds up.

With 3 drops, you are also going to be benefiting people who miss 4 events, and slightly benefiting people who miss 5 events. Are you sure you want to slightly benefit people who only make it to 50% of events.
It's a close call between 2 and 3 in my opinion.
With only 7 events to count with 3 drops. Person A could get first place and only show up 5 times (45 points) and still win if the Person B came in 2nd at EVERY event (42 points).
0 drops
Person A 45
Person B 60
1 drop
Person A 45
Person B 54
2 drops
Person A 45
Person B 48
3 drops
Person A 45
Person B 42
So, is Person A a better driver? Probably.
But who deserves the championship more? Answer that, then you should have the answer to which is better 2 or 3 drops.

Wait...
Three drops.
Driver A: 6 6 6 6 6 9 9 9 9 9 = 57
Driver B: 9 9 9 9 9 - - - - - = 45
Jeremy, you were making the assumption that for every event that driver B (the hot shoe who only made it to 5 events) didn't attend, driver A would still come in 2nd. If driver A really deserves that win, he'd be finishing first when driver B wasn't around to mop the floor with his ass.

yeah, you are right.
I did an "if the season ended today" scenario and was kind of underwhelmed. Not one class was affected until 3 drops and even then it was only turning leads in ties.
At 3 drops....
Drew loses the lead in Class D. He is now tied with Kenny for first place. In head to head competition, they each have 2 wins against eachother.
Christopher Meier loses 3rd place in Class G. He is now tied with Mark Jones for 3rd place. In head to head competition, Mark has won 4 times, Christopher has won once.
Brian Kollar loses the lead in Class J. He is now tied with Michael Long for first place. In head to head competition, Brian has won 2 times, Michael has won 3 times.
So I guess 3 drops isn't that bad after all.

No more comments here the last few days. So the decision for 2010 is to drop the lowest 3 scores. Going once...

NO!!!
Wow, I should've known I stir the pot with this subject. Yellow_Colorz_PDT_01
We need to have another meeting once the season is finished and discuss this more face to face and get it resloved. I for one favor not dropping a event, and the farthest I'm going to lean is dropping just one.
I guess I shouldn't have used the word
penalised in my earlier post, basically what I was trying to say is that there
"could" (empahasis "could") be a driver that shows up and competes highly at every event, only to be beat in the standings because that driver had to drop a low score event he attended, and still lose to a driver that didn't show up. How many times it could happen? Probably not much, but if I were the driver denied a Class Championship because the driver in front of me got to take a day off instead of competeing and winning the class outright would bother me. Just my 2 pennnies...

Well, while the majority of those who have posted here seem to favor the idea of dropping three, Brian is the Points Master...and we haven't had a "Membership" meeting in a good while...and the points thing doesn't need to be decided much in advance (unlike Classing) for next year...
Anyone care to attend a sorta-annual "membership" meeting to discuss points, the "state of the club" and what-not? Or is that overkill? Post a poll?

We need to have a meeting of the "Members" after this season.

I agree, a meeting JUST for this issue is overkill.
However, an "annual meeting" is not out of order. We'll have 2009 season awards to hand out, and our fearless leader needs to tell us lies.

Woot!
Technically, the one points event, instructing at the school, and we did a second day of the school too right? and the june event would make me a real "member" too

I think there's an unwritten "school instructors are members" clause somewhere. <scribble, scribble> Oh, I found it, it's right here.

Loren, you crack me up!
Try not to schedule the meeting until sometime after June 14. I'd like to attend.

We'll aim for some time in August - gives time to actually get the awards that'll be given out. Stay tuned...
