You need registration to close at least a week prior to the event so that you'll have time to deal with classing issues (bumping and combining is always a requirement) and create the grids. That means you'll need to open registration over a month out.

No problem for either. All Brooksville events close preregistration about a week before so we can send in the access roster on time, and we publish at least the next two events on MAE...right now, we're registering for September and October. The only change from normal would be mandatory pre-payment, which also isn't a problem -- we did it for the school.

Being able to dump the database from MAE would make balancing classes and brackets easier than before, too.

I'd be willing to co-chair a November or December event, so long as the co-chair can step in the day of the event if I get called out of town...my travel schedule hasn't eased up any, and US Air hasn't become more reliable. I got stranded again a couple of weeks ago...luckly I got a flight out the next day, instead of having to take the train back like last time!

Just be sure that if an MK style event is scheduled that people KNOW what they're registering for. It is a very different event format, everybody needs to be there early and be ready and be prepared for the fact that they could very well get punted after two runs!

The Original MirrorKhana skirted that issue a bit by being a 2-day event with the first day being practice where you could easily get in 6 runs (back in the days when 4 run autocrosses were the standard). If you want to make this a 2-day event, it sure does ease up the scheduling. You can have a nice, relaxed day of practice, and a fairly quick day of competition.

I think we got 2 practice runs in the morning also. That seemed adequate to me.

Yep, that can be done... but it makes for either a very cramped schedule, or a very low entry limit (possibly both). As I said, it really takes planning and coordination to pull this off.

I like that idea, being that I would probably be one of the first to exit, I'd at least like to know that I would at least get my monies worth. Hopefully by Decemeber I'll have my car a little more competitive.

When we did it at Primus, everybody was, I think, guaranteed at least 4 runs (until they shut us down at 5pm). 2 practice, then, at worst case, one loss in the regular bracket, and one loss in the "loser's bracket".

A thought if we run it again... last time we had downtime between, for example, the semi-final and final runs of each bracket due to cool-down time, etc. Perhaps we run the normal bracket, but stop before the finals. That way, once all class brackets are run, we have our final lineups ready, and we can send eliminated people out to work the course for the finals.

Can the timing system handle 2 start and 2 finishes? I would imagine so since we can run multiple cars.

Also, when you ran it the last time was it a street race style start with someone dropping there arms or was it a christmas tree setup?

There are no clocks in MirrorKhana. Hand-starting.

(clocks are only used when there are multiple drivers in the same car who must go head-to-head)

From what I've read, it's just someone dropping their arms for the start. I wonder what happens if both cars finish really close, is the finish decided by a light or is it a judgement call from the person at the finish line?

There is a starter, all he does is start the cars.

There are two judges, one on each side of the course. (finish lines are inline with each other, so the finish should be clear to both judges)

Each judge immediately signals the winner independent of the other judge. If they do not concur, the match is immediately rerun from opposite starting points.

The course would have to be a little long. That is probably a 70+ sec course.

We'd also have to make sure that the grass is mowed around the start finish line so we can have some room for spectators. It would be kind of boring without that.

Don't know how many spectators we would actually have though, since this course would require heavy coursework as opposed to Primus which was almost none.
