My Ford has 3 circuits to the trailer. One for the left signal and brake, one for the right signal and brake, and one for the all running/clearance lights. The only fuse that blows is the last circuit. As long as the headlights/running lights are not on the fuse is fine.

Okay, so before cutting any wires, isolate the 12v supply wire for all of the running lights and see if it is shorted to ground. If it is, then you've got something to work with.

Since we suspect that our interior improvements to the trailer may have shorted the clearance lights, you can clip the wire to the clearance lights and see if the short goes away. If it doesn't, I'd start checking bulbs on all of the other running lights. If the short is still present even with the bulbs out, then it's wiring. Clip the supply to each light separately until you find out which wire the short is in. Then, find and repair/replace the grounded wire.

Methodical troubleshooting FTW.

Yeah, that's pretty much where I was headed. I couldn't figure out how to pop the cover off the lights to check the bulbs. That's where I'd like to start...if I can pull those covers off. Well that and check the supply wire like you said. Now I just have to make sure to grab my meter and make sure it's got fresh batteries. Worse case, after all is checked, I'm cutting the main power wire to the clearance lights (I'm pretty sure I only saw the one) and putting quick connectors on it. That should at least getting us legal again for any dim light cruising the trailer will see. Actually, I guess worse case would be wiring in new tail lights. Hope to avoid that....

The trailer now has marker lights, well at least most of them including the main rear ones. It was the wire that went to the lower rear passenger side marker light. We must have hit it with a screw when putting in the upper shelf that fell down. We just disconnected that one wire for now. I doubt we'll really miss it though. Thanks to Dave for coming out and lending a hand. We where able to find it and knock it out in no time flat.
