April 14th event at SPC

After looking over these times for hours

I noticed a few things......

1. REALLY close competition(my class was decided by 0.03 secs)
2. Mark Jones was REALLY consistent.
3. Drew missed taking his first FTD again by 0.1

Bullhorn was great. I never went past 50% and was, as noted, often shouting over folks heads 'cuz I didn't want to hurt nobody. Great day. My folks both had a blast. Mark, thanks for all the help, you're awesome!

Didn't realize you weren't using full volume, Dan. I guess since I couldn't hear you clearly a lot of the time, I just assumed that you had it maxed and that was all it could do! We should do some purposeful experiments with it next time. Have someone stand over by the gate and see what you have to turn it to for them to hear the bullhorn at the trailer.

Okay... Results have been corrected. Charles says they're 100% correct except that group 2 times are out of order. Instead of 1-7, they are 3-7, 1-2. Get it? Got it? Good.

I had a great time! Again...loved the course!

I was drained by the end of the day...that waas a very long day in the sun! I was using the bullhorn at full volume but most people couldn't hear me until I put it right up to my mouth. Then it was LOUD!

I had a great time, it was nice to get in 7 runs, it really showed me how BAD I need new tires. Plus the day made me learn a very important lesson, never forget to apply sunscreen to the back of your legs. :shock: I couldn't sit down all day Sunday.

The motorcycle guys were a bit of a surprise, but at least they put up a couple tarps for shade.

Any water damage to the trailer is old. It's been stored in Howard's barn for... probably close to two years. Only time it gets wet is if it's raining on autox day.

The trailer is currently stored in the open while the barn is being rebuilt.

More important... I meant to mention this Saturday... there are ants in the trailer. Would probably be a good idea to set a bug bomb in there just to be sure we don't end up with our own ant farm.

It was parked on an ant hill outside the barn. It'll probably be as bad or worse by next event unless someone goes and puts down some anticide. (Isn't that what ant killer is called?)

The times in the results were taken directly from the hand written timing sheets which are our official times. I'm not sure if the whiteboard was off in a few places or not. Sometimes whoever is writing those times down on the whiteboard will miss a time and scatters to play catch up. Times were flying in about every 25 secs

That's the answer. I didn't even notice it but all 3 drivers I was talking about had their fastest runs during run #7. Oh well, I'm not too concerned about #83, mine or Steve's since we were top 3 with our fastest and the runs posted, but the other G cars that deserve points, and possibly drivers in other classes may not get the points they should get.

Not a huge deal once I guess, but since this is a competition missing some of the runs or having incorrect times recorded is clearly a bad thing. I heard something about the computer's power going out after the first group, which makes sense for all the G drivers missing some times, does the timing sheet only have spots for 6 runs?

And I'm not trying to put blame on someone or raise a big stink about it (sorry if it seems that way), but we can't make such mistakes, it can hurt repeat business IMO.

4. get rid of the paper slips. a simple peice of gridded or lined paper can do the trick as backup to the PC. and the poor timing writer does not have to flip through 100 pages to find a compeditors card

That IS pretty inefficient. No reason for that.

Man was that a fun course, and a TREMENDOUS competition. Big props to Dan and Mark for making this such a fun event. It is really fun to be on the road to learning how to drive my car..... so much better than spending long hours under the hood.

Mark, thanks for the props from my fellow VR MSM! I think Brian is coming up to Brooksville, so we should have quite a collection of Mazdaspeeds around.

This was my first (and possibly only) FTD. I really expected to be beat by Howard, Bob T, and Drew, but I got lucky. I'll enjoy it while I can.

Another magnetic number option is to go on Ebay, search magnetic vinyl, and you'll find vendors selling scraps. I got two 12x18 sheets for like $20, shipped.

You can then cut out your own numbers, or (this part someone suggested to me once) go to a local motorcycle/bmx shop, and I guess they sell adhesive vinyl numbers dirt cheap...
