Re: March 10th SPC-Split Event Format
Let's see how many points I can cover on my lunch break.
Good feedback from all, thanks!
Numbers - we need to give tech license to be adamant about proper numbers. We need to remind folks at registration to stay with their car until it is teched. Keeping up with paper numbers AND tape is a hassle, but I will make sure we start keeping a few different colors of wide tape in the tech box.
Charles, I think you covered it all. If you want to socialize more, you can stick around for the other session, join us post-event, attend the Monday meeting (or have your own 'meeting' somewhere), call our text... Or just be active here on the forum. None of that REQUIRES everyone else to devote more than 5 hours to an event, which add flexibility... Which is good.
Jason, we will look at other stop box options. Just a worker with a flag and a stern look may suffice!

Maybe you should have registered for both sessions and did 10 runs. Then maybe you..... Oh wait.Solar wrote: Are you the guy that flogged my car for the first time at the end of the day and still beat my best time by 3/10th of a second ?What the hell are you complaining about ?

I like the stop box, too many times I see cars roll from the finish to park in the grid at 20mph. You should be at WALKING speed when traveling from the finish to grid. Thats 4 mph.

This was the best autocross I have ever attended, even with the silly S turn.

First time trying that side by side thing. Pretty sure it's not lined up right. Don't care though.
Looks like Charles beat me to the first cone and then I stomped him in the sweeper.
He needs larger attachments. /David Hobbs

That side by side was very cool, was that your 5th or 6th run? How'd you pull off 6 runs anyway

Eric: Neat camera angles...a previous Corvette owner gets especially interested in seeing how the rear suspension of the C4 moves...even your axle 'pumpkin' is flexing!
Charles: luckily Nate in the G8 enlightened me on the better angle to the entry to the S turn...almost made the difference of .064 to tie Jeremy...always a good day when it is that close.
Stop box: we should encourage the full stop at either venue...human nature is to not bring it back to zero after a full tilt run-its called adrenaline!

I thought it was interesting that on everyone of your runs, your front right tire locked up when you were braking into the first green cone. This caused some small drama on a couple of your runs. But even more intriguing was that the 240sx behind you (Hart?) locked up his front right tire in an identical manner every single time as well!Solar wrote: So much going tonight here that I want to chat about, but will have to wait until tomorrow.....

Thanks. Yeah, I'm waiting to hear back from he guys at Van Steel. I don't think it's supposed to move. Might be time for poly batwing bushings. I really enjoyed watching the tire flex under cornering. Will have to do it again where you can see more of the tire contact patch.Tim_M wrote:Eric: Neat camera angles...a previous Corvette owner gets especially interested in seeing how the rear suspension of the C4 moves...even your axle 'pumpkin' !

Miatas have the tendency to lock the RF first, as well. Something to do with weight distribution, I think. A little more weight on the left side (driver).Rosko wrote:locked up his front right tire in an identical manner every single time as well!

High praise, indeed!Jeremy wrote:This was the best autocross I have ever attended, even with the silly S turn.
I think the S-turn (purely by accident, it's just where the setup crew happened to place it, and it was "close enough" that Dave didn't bother adjusting it) ended up being more of a fun medium-speed right-hand sweeper followed by a frustrating hairpin. There just wasn't QUITE enough room on the outside of that turn! Had we moved the center wall and "pin cone" to the north another 5-10 feet as we talked about when we walked it, I think the course would have ended up being a little easier to drive. Or... would that have screwed up the fun entry turn?

That is interesting. Especially considering the difference in brakes on the cars. Perhaps it was a function of our line? I know that from my first run to my last I was carrying much more speed going into the first part of the "S". I think once I got to that point I was braking way too late. I ran out experience and runs long before I could make a correction. I think I was too tight coming into the turn as well. Next time I guess. I'm excited to do this again. Since next time will be my 2nd time ever I hope to build on what I learned.
I wanted for you (Rosko) to pull off a smooth "S" turn on at least one run...your car was quick...30sec quck if the 2nd part of that turn did catch you out each time.

Re: March 10th SPC-Split Event Format
Royce, the RX-8 wasn't Chuck this time. He was driving Chris' MX-5.
Taylor, thanks for mentioning that, I totally forgot. We're going to have to come up with a new plan for how to get the award stickers out to those who aren't there at the end of the day. It won't be to hand them out at the driver's meeting. We tried that before, takes too much time. For now, if you have a 1st, 2nd or 3rd place finish and didn't get your sticker, come find me, Steve, or Brian at an event and we'll hook you up.
Maybe we can get in the habit of handing them out immediately before the driver's meeting, like during the novice walk or something? Brian? Steve? Thoughts?
