So, last night a guy not paying attention took out Joanie from the fight. Dirty trick guys :nope: - not like I was going to beat any of you anyway!
Thus, I am now registered for a duel with no sword.

So if any R8 drivers need a co-driver with experience driving an R8...

Crap, I meant to respond to that this morning. So, is the G8 done for? Hope someone can offer up a co-drive.

No injuries, thankfully. Car's down, but the inspection sounded promising, so the other guy's insurance will bring her back.

cars can be fixed or replaced, as long as you are ok, that's what's important.

Glad to hear you're okay. :thumbwink:

I think the only way you can get a rental is if you have covered under your policy. :dunno:

Until proven otherwise, I think everyone is scared to be beaten by me in a little red sports car.

Stands to reason, I guess.

Those people are overlooking the fact that the Duel is a blast even if you don't win. And just like any autocross, only one person is going to win any given class... this is no different. (other than the fact that even if you don't win your class, you CAN win some pretty intense matches against some of the other underdogs in your class)

Okay, here's how much fun this type of event is.

It's based on an event called "MirrorKhana" that was run annually from 1972 until 2002, and is still run occasionally in Salina, Kansas. Yes, I said Kansas. About 5 years ago, I flew to Kansas to do the event in a POS rental car! Did I win? Hell, no! Was it fun? Hell, yeah!

The more people who sign up for it and the larger variety of cars, the better. Why? Because regular classing goes out the window and the "class" groups are only loosely based on classes, and more based on "seeding" which comes from looking at what you're driving and YOUR previous results. So, it's VERY possible that there won't be enough drivers to make an "S5" class, but combining the lower half of S4 with S5 will make a nice class... and bumping the upper half of S4 up to S2 will make another. A match between an S4 and S5 car or an S2 and S4 car would be handicapped accordingly.

Don't get too worked up in the details, though... just register!

Even your three practice matches can be fun because YOU can decide who to run against. "I need to see how I stack up against Joe"... no problem, line up and practice against Joe. And if you handily beat Joe (assuming he's not sandbagging to mess with your head), then you know you can challenge him in competition and have a good shot at winning a round.

im more worried about my 6 blowing up or hitting a cone or doing anything mean in my wifes new car haha, it seems like an awful lot of fun. i requested the day off so that will more than likely be the deciding factor on going, but then i gotta figure out which car i should take.

Some new Duel info:
  • Register by Thursday, Feb 19 if you want a shirt.
  • Starting Friday, Feb 20, NO SHIRTS will be available (we're not ordering any extras), and entry fee will be reduced to $48.
  • If the entry count stays low, we'll offer more practice runs to those in attendance.
  • Registration CLOSES on Monday, Feb 23 at 6:00pm. Get yourself registered before then!
  • IMPORTANT: Be sure you list the correct car and class that you intend to run! Last minute classing changes are troublesome with this event.
If you're still not sure what the Duel is all about, you'll find that most of your questions are answered here:

I'm tempted...

Heck, my gloves are nearly worn out-time for a new set?

The course almost hints that AWD might have a fighting chance...although not sure it is worth my clutch this time around-not cheap after 8 launches last time!

Unfortunately, Cub Scouts may bump the fun that Saturday...hmm...can I give rides?

Just heard from the shop and there's a chance - a chance - that Joanie might be done next week. Fingers crossed on an affirmative update before the cancelation deadline, but that also assumes that this shop is different than all the other shops I've dealt with in my life. :dunno:

I'm ready to duel! I got a laugh at this when signing up:

"List all major modifications including wheels/tires."

Will the new shocks or plug wires affect my grouping? :snicker:

I don't see how tire/wheels should be considered a mod unless you are going outside class spec.
