Loren convinced me that if I removed one axle and rev limited the Vette to 2k rpm we might be equally matched. I actually tried this the other day and still hit 55 in 3rd @ 2k redline. Starting in 2nd made it fairly quick with only one shift needed:) Using the cruise control at 45mph on my rural tire test road while staying in my lane in 4th gear was a blast for my wife and I trying to be smooth only using steering (while covering the brake) to slow the car and learning the new tires.

Get some heat in those tires Doug..

Why encourage him to waste runs? Just leave it in first the whole way, and don't waste time shifting. :)

That is some solid advice, Doug will be able to use it also. Look at us giving away all this good advice just like last week at the driver's school. :)

I think it is super cool to reuse successful courses over time. In essence it will tell us if we've improved or not? Technically we could have a dozen courses that more or less remained the same and could have "course records" for those. I ran with the Pittsburgh club years ago (a 2hr drive for me) at an abandoned VW/Sony plant where they actually painted different colored squares on the pavement for 6 different courses and that's all they ever ran there. But it was interesting to know what the record was for each class.

Hmm. 100' slaloms into a decreasing radius turnround... I guess I'll see if my brakes work. Fingers crossed!

Sorry in advance to the workers at Station 4. :derp:

See Jamie's advice about first gear, you need to apologize to course workers at Station 4.

Randy,
Go see Joe Brannon for a wheel alignment check. It's bad enough to get your ass handed to you by Sharon Shields let alone the Mayor. Ouch. She lets Danny (world champion) race her car. Wish I would have known there is the time change Nov 6th. Crap. Would have liked to go toe to toe with them both. Can sleep in that day.

You probably didn't know this but:

Danny Shields won a national championship in an 86 Mustang GT (Same equipment as Shamu other than the auto and the vert). I tried my ass off to sell Shamu to him but his garage was full. Got him to test drive Shamu once and he finished 0.1 second behind me on the ONLY run I'd give him:) hahahaha. A year later when I changed cars he told me he also owned a C5 Nationally competitive C5....DOH...I didn't know that. Don't know how many jackets he's won in what cars? I was told he has won EVERY FL State Championship since it was invented. 15 years? Damn. Who's the target on Nov 13th? It ain't me. It's just cool to know that 20 years after the fact I keep finding old Danny Shields National Jacket cars. Too late too old too slow. Story of my life. But then there's tomorrow!!!

The Mayor

Danny has also won national championsips in a Neon.

Aw, hell. I've got the Solo rule book PDF on my desktop, let's see... Danny Shields championships...

Solo 1 (higher speed time trials, usually done on race tracks)
1986 E Stock - VW Rabbit

Pro Solo (dragstrip start autocross against a competitor on a mirrored course)
1994 G Stock - Mazda MX-6
1995 G Stock - Mazda MX-6
2000 D Stock - Plymouth Neon

Solo II (that's regular autocross or what they just call "Solo" now)
1993 G Stock - Mazda MX-6
1994 G Stock - Mazda MX-6
1988 E Stock - VW Jetta
2000 D Stock - Plymouth Neon

We've got a few folks we see from time to time who have "strong resumes". Danny's wife, Sharon Shields. Elliot Harvey. Ian Stewart. David Marcus. Bryce Meredeth. Darren Seltzer. Darrin DiSimo. There are others, but those are the ones that a lot of us have seen at FAST events, or at least heard about locally.

Guess that explains why he was interested in my 86 Mustang and C5 Vette. Didn't see them on your pdf :blackeye:

Danny and Sharon are merely on my friend list

That's okay, Doug. I'd have sworn Danny won a championship in his 924S, as well. But, apparently not!

For posterity. The kid in the corner is my smart ass 2nd grandson.

When I was 55 in the year 2000 in a borrowed awesome first place car I never drove before I finished 6th for my first and only trophy at Nationals. The ONLY car to trophy twice.

16 years ago you might have beaten me? Today should be a piece of cake for anyone? I haven't gotten faster but I might have gotten smoother? Or smarter?
