Ah I give in.. throwing on my old tires that I'm not even sure will make it home after the day lol. Luckily I can have someone bring some more wheels since it's fairly close if that's the case.

I like the "stop messing with your car" talk going on. I didn't really touch my car since I started a year and a half or so ago... hell I stopped even checking tire pressures lol. I did finally put on a huge borrowed front sway bar for the last event and it seemed to work well. It will kill me at this place where I already have no front grip, mixed with crap tires but I'm sure I'll be able to at least put on a bit of a show for everyone.

See you all there

So is the dog track gonna eat up my tires? Should I throw on some old spares?

OK...I have a personal agenda to get more drivers to come out...So how could you refuse when you could be testing yourself against what will likely be the BIGGEST vehicle out there (Moby Dick!...that is unless someone decides to enter this part of the competition with their (full size) pickup or SUV...hey...I saw the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT CRUSH the dog track course last year). And, if there are enough drivers, I'll be running the Insight, not the SMALLEST, but in a grudge match competition with THE SMALLEST...Fastiva...which, by the way, was beaten by the Insight at the dog track last year. You can't see if you can beat the M4s this go-around if you don't come out (ok...Loren is officially in M3). Gauntlet cast!

Just a few more hours to get in...

Hmmm. Cold weather, bald tires, gravel, off-camber elevation changes, and our talent for spins...The Doug and Eva show will be entertaining y'all on Saturday. New tires next week!

"Eat up" is a strong statement. Will you see more wear at the dog track than at Brooksville? Yes. Because we typically do a BUNCH of runs (like 8-10), and the surface is roughish asphalt rather than smooth concrete, plus it has a bit of sand on it in places, which adds to the abrasiveness, and due to its size, tight turn-arounds are a requirement.

So, yeah, you'll see some tire wear there. How much depends on how you choose to drive it. If you're the kind of driver who has the "oh, the car is understeering, I'm going to add more steering input and FLOOR IT", your tires won't be happy. If you drive the surface and your car the way they want to be driven, it's really not so bad.

It will often LOOK kinda bad because the rough asphalt and the dirt will make the edges of your sidewalls look worse than they are. But, after some street miles, things are back to looking like normal.

Should you run some old spares? Eh, it's a Classic event... so, maybe yes? You're not going to get stellar grip out there on that surface, anyway. That said... Carl came out with his Corvette on race tires and set FTD a while back... not exactly "the car" for a tight course on a non-grippy surface, but the race rubber helped him. Can't say that good tires are useless there.

How's that for a non-committal answer?

Many a tire destin for the grave has been sanded smooth at the dog track.

It's not bad if you abstain from massive drifts... But they get kinda fun.

Hmm.... Thanks for the heads up, low boost map and light footed around the corners it shall be... Well...at least for a couple of first runs that is. [emoji3]

I was able to get that new RSB installed, it really woke up the suspension. The car feels a whole lot more responsive going into corners at speed... but with all of that being said, I can easily see myself going for a spin if I'm not careful. She's riding TIGHT now, and I like it!

Your Insight might work,
but it won't work well enough.
Fastiva will win.

So I was looking at the entry list and noticed the classing differs at face value, and then I noticed that classing has HS was highlighted the same as the bump down statement.

Is S5 a bump down for ES/GS w/tire and open diff conditions - and HS regardless; or is it a bump down for ES-HS?

S4 - Stock Street Tire 4 (ES) 6 ENTRIES
S5 - Stock Street Tire 5 (HS+) 3 ENTRIES

I think I know my answer, but ya know, I'll keep asking until the reg page is matching! :)

Read the rules page.

But, yes, "S5 – Voluntary bump down for ES/GS/HS cars (must meet requirements)"

The info that shows on the entry list page is probably a little out of date. I'll look at it. Maybe just remove all of the SCCA classing crap altogether.

You all know that the only "unsafe/unproven" tire is the new one you just put on the car right? Assuming there is no cord showing and no cracks old tires are awesome handling simply due to less squirm no chunking.

So far the Federals are holding up nicely, no noticeable wear issue. I guess I'll roll the dice and see how long they can hold up... if I can get an entire season or more out of them I'll be happy.
