What I don't get is M2 really not a place for the Mirage? In the last 4 events as it sits right now would have been on the podium twice. If it had a bit more power, even with NB miata levels of acceleration I wouldn't bet against it. Sure, with Drew or Matt in M2 a win would be surprising but I think everything else would be an even fight.jev61 wrote:I think Loren should get the front runners of M3 together and ask to compete in M3 in his car with boost. If everyone says yes, he is G2G for the upcoming season. If, after the season, they change their minds, he bumps up to M2. Steve, you are out of luck. You will be too much to handle with boost in your car. It is M2 for you. Better yet, go play with Matt and Drew.

I'm just trying to make Loren feel better about buying a Mirage.Carracer wrote:What I don't get is M2 really not a place for the Mirage? Does anyone else remember this Road Kill episode with the 4 leaf blower superchargers? It worked.

I forgot that 1989-92 Mitsubishi Mirage/Colt was built in USA and a strong little 135HP turbo and a competent race car.
Doubt it would fit into a new Mirage but it would be fast and the parts are probably still available.
So a bolt in engine/driveline designed for a turbo might be awesome boosted to 10psi or so. The "same number of pistons" idea suddenly becomes much more important.

Regarding the MSM-I don't know why it is classed the same as NA miatas, I don't think it should be. Probably more of an affect of lack of data given the relatively few numbers of them competing nationally. Maybe?
I am pretty sure this thought process has more to do with Steve's car than Loren's. I really don't see Loren wanting to throw forced induction on his car. It's like voodoo to him.
Now, maybe it is a bit unfair that Steve's minor boost adder will throw him into a tough class. Personally, I think he will do just fine. But, we have to keep in mind that one situation should not determine class changes. The possibility of what could be done is what determines limitation.
That being said, I don't think it's something we usually have to be concerned with. FAST rules are designed for simplicity. We don't want to have people feeling that they have to prepare their car to the limits of the rules. Some people will and enjoy it, like Loren, and that's ok. There are still classes for the people who want to go all out. It's the ones with small numbers after the M.
I believe our goal has always been to allow everyone to come play and still allow some common modifications that many people do to their street cars. I don't think adding forced induction is common. It's time consuming(Steve) and can get quite expensive. If someone wanted to, they could exploit your potential rule changes, and everyone else will think that it isn't fair.
