Video of the course is off-topic? What could be more on-topic?Tim M wrote:Slightly off topic...in-car video
Style points, my friend, lots of style points. You'll have to make it known the next time you want to run your Mini. I might bring out my Triumph... maybe some other folks have classics they could bring out, too?Do I get any points for 8th place???
As a friend of mine who drove a 1972 Corvette that was often the only car at an autocross with chrome bumpers used to say: "If you can't be fast, at least be pretty."

Cool vid, thanks for posting. (I think it must have gotten electronically reversed though - the steering wheel was on the right side ?!?

Fun video. Classic Minis are some of my all-time favorite cars - yours looks especially nice. I'll have to get my friend Phil back out with his. . .
I put up a very small gallery of the few pix I got from the day, mostly family & friend stuff, but one is of your Mini.

I had a great time yesterday! Driving the kart for the first time was exhilarating and I think I'm hooked. It was extremely bumpy but definitely worth the pain and near-heat-stroke.
Which reminds me to thank you again, Kim, for the way the karts ran. I don't think I could've made it much longer wearing the jacket, jeans, neck brace, and full-faced helmet. Being able to do all my runs quickly really helped!
Big thanks to all of you that allowed me to ride along. (And Aaron for letting me take a practice drive in his car; sorry about the 45-second time!
) I have so much fun with you crazy guys! Oh, and I'm convinced that Loren is totally insane.
Last but not least, thanks to John who finally convinced me to drive the kart. I was extremely nervous before I drove, but it was a blast! I'll be kicking your butt at the next event. Heehee..
Again, awesome event, Kim. Everything was wonderful.
Any other pics/videos?

I wasn't finger-pointing. You weren't the only one. It's just something that needs to be brought up from time to time so that more people think about it and look for it.miazda man wrote:sorry about the arm out of the window thing but loran made me see the light  I will try not to let that happen again.

What about me.. LOL ... I don't think that I have a "Jesus bar", door handle, etc... Unfortunatley, I think my head doubles as a roll bar! LOLLoren wrote:Nothing like a hot shower to loosen up the brain...
The third safety thing:
3. Keep all yer body parts inside the car while on course. There were a few people who made a habit of hanging their elbow out of the window, or holding onto the side of the door, or the windshield frame, or whatever. In the event of a rollover, this will not do. Yes, Virginia, cars can and DO roll over at autocrosses. Is it a major risk? No. But neither is the risk of crashing... yet we are all required to wear helmets and seatbelts. Trust me, the stains in your undies will wash out and you'll be a lot happier not having road rash on your elbow, or 2 tons of car resting on your fingertips! So, find a "Jesus bar", a door handle, the driver's knee... anything INSIDE the car to hold onto and keep your appendages inside the car. Thanks!

I spoke to them. It is turbo'd. They turned the boost way down for the autocross. In full boost, they said it develops approx. 375 WHP :shock:kickslop wrote:Did anyone talk to the red RX-7's owner(s)? Know any specs? Still a rotary or swapped? Turbo'd? Which turbo? Wheel sizes? Other mods?
Very nice set up.

Due to your lack of a signature with any information on your post and my poor memory not being able to connect "Formula74" with anything or anyone... I haven't a clue what you're driving or who you are.Formula74 wrote:What about me.. LOL ... I don't think that I have a "Jesus bar", door handle, etc... That was my first guess, but I couldn't make a direct connection between "Formula 74" and a kart, and I don't trust my memory!solar 90GT/03Si wrote:It's John Edwards, he was driving the cart.
Karts are different. Kart drivers are required to wear a lot more protective gear, like long sleeves, long pants and gloves (takes care of the "road rash" problem). And a kart doesn't weigh several thousand pounds, so if it lands on your hand... well, it's still gonna hurt!
I've yet to see a kart driver get around an autocross course without both hands on the wheel, though. 8)

Scott is Dan Rasp's boss. He posts here as Mazsportscott. I think that's who you were talking about.Did anyone talk to the red RX-7's owner(s)? Know any specs? Still a rotary or swapped? Turbo'd? Which turbo? Wheel sizes? Other mods?

It's an 87-88 Turbo2 motor running a factory manifold and turbo with a few internal mods. We use the same setup in our turbo rotary miata conversions we do and the setup works quite well. We were running the car with the boost controller off on Saturday so it was running 5-6 psi.kickslop wrote:Did anyone talk to the red RX-7's owner(s)? Know any specs? Still a rotary or swapped? It dyno'd at 368rwhp and 280rwtq @14psi on pump gas.

This was my first autocross. I'm a drifter and this was almost as fun! My battery ground came loose and killed my alternator in my white 96 240sx. I got 1 and 1/2 run. My first run was a blast which made me mad that I couldn't get any other good runs. My 2nd run I had too much rear grip and understeered off corse around station 2. The staging guy said my wheel was busted right before my 3rd run. I have a 2 way LSD locking rear end that locks, clunks, jumps, shake's and peal's out when turning and that must of made it look messed up. It's set up for drifting and everything was good to go but then my battery died! Other than all that and a sun burn I really want to make the next event to have some fun! I walked that corse 1 time and I loved how it was set up! My first run I took it easy with 45psi tire pressure and I dident mean to get a little sideways but I still got a 44 sec. run NOT hitting 1 cone. Everyone was really nice! I loved the corse and wanted to drift the whole corse but it was a great feeling to GRIP for a change! I vote to see that corse again. Thank You to everyone and I hope to make it to the next event! I will be running 245/45/17's next time!
