Minimum spacing for a slalom is generally accepted at 45-50 feet. While our Chicago boxes aren't usually SUPER tight, they are typically spaced at 30-40 feet. Considerably tighter than any real slalom.
I do sort of agree that they are largely a waste of cones, but used sparingly in the right place, they work well. Where Drew put his Chicago box was a place where we needed cones to define the outside of the course for safety, anyway, so it didn't add many cones.

Oh Okay!!! Just curious why is it called a chicago box????
I think this is right...
The SCCA mandated minimum distances between cones in a slalom. Someone (from Chicago?) circumvented the rule by creating a Chicago box. So now they could make a slalom as tight as they wanted.
Thankfully no one here makes them tight, so they are really just a waste of cones.
Thanks for the info Jeremy! Now get those wheels cleaned Yellow_Colorz_PDT_06

Hello to the powers that be. I need to sign up for a job for the event.. Let me know how to contact you for this. I'm a newbie ( to FAST ) and don't have a clue as to the way you work. Thanks !!!!

When you registered for the event on MyAutoEvents, there is a line on the reg. form for you to specify what jobs you might like to volunteer for. The entire list available is on the first page of this thread. Any job is available that doesn't have a name by it yet. If they're all filled, well, the person doing the work assignments will offer the best pot luck they have.
If you missed that line on MAE, feel free to go back and edit your entry to include the job you may want. You can also send an email to
info@wedrivefast.com or pm "Jamie"
Or, if you want pot luck, which is probably simplest for a noob, do nothing more.
ok? 8)

Steven,
Extreme is a member of my LeMons team. Yellow_Colorz_PDT_08
I registered him on my car, and I didn't know what job to sign him up for.
We are going to be busy swapping drivers, working on the car (hopefully nothing major...), so all 4 team mates are signed up for duties to free ourselves during the autocross.
Thanks!

...not to say those who've registered already are "irregulars"...

I was feeling a little irregular the other day, then I registered and it was all better.

I'm letting Bob have first chance. If he can't tow we can; the Flowers will be there with the V10 powered RV.
Not to worry; one way or another the trailer will be there.

Good enough. Anyone on the fence better make a decision -- at the current rate, we'll hit our limit well before the 15 April deadline.

My course has been approved by Jamie and safety with minor revisions to even out speed. Let's fill those remaining slots!

They might get filled faster with a course map. Please.

Didn't seem to make a difference...the grid is full.
Please.
Alexis said she wanted to tease your imagination a bit first, so: about 0.6 mile total, and yes, she
does like Chicago boxes.
Logistics:
We're at 72 people on-site right now. I'm not going to change the MAE announcement that close to the limit, but I will fill those last three slots with either drivers or guests in response to e-mail requests -- send 'em to
info@wedrivefast.com. If anyone cancels from the current list, the space will open up on MAE, so late-comers keep an eye on the entry list.
Because of the course length, we're going to need at least 5 worker stations, so I'll probably have to ask a couple of people from the early/late groups to pull an extra assignment.
We need a lunch runner. PM me or send a note to
info@wedrivefast.com
Bill Flowers -- taking you up on your offer to tow the trailer!
EDIT BY MOD.: the correct email is
info@wedrivefast.com
