Station #3 was pretty close to the racing line. This was a pretty hairy section also. The 3-cone slalom right before the turnaround. I got loose entering that at least once. I noticed that someone just dropped cones on the edge of the runway to mark the stations, and these guys at #3 just stood right beside it. Looks like the rest of the stations were smart enough to move back a little.

I think someone needs to start marking out worker stations instead of just letting workers pick their own spots. It's a crappy job, I know because it's my job at every SCCA event. But I think it's very important that stuff like this doesn't happen. People could die. Please assign this job to someone in the future. It's part of my job of doing work assignments, but it could easily go to the safety steward or course designer as well.

We really need to revise our driver's meeting notes. This is something I like to talk about at driver's meetings... if your worker position is not in a safe place, MOVE. (likewise, if where you are isn't seeing a lot of action and 200' away is, MOVE to where the action is to save yourself some running and make you more efficient at keeping the course set)

We do normally include worker stations on the map at design time, but I was in the process of training Drew this time and with all of the other things we were looking at, I completely forgot. Billy ended up picking locations and marking the map when he did worker assignments.

This is a responsibility that should fall to whoever is filling the "Safety" or "Course Marshall" position at each event. This time, that person was Drew, but any shortcomings are my fault because I was training him.

OK, I thought it was done on purpose because I have mentioned it before and was met with indifference because it was assumed that courseworkers were able to pick safe locations on their own.

Maybe we should start showing some of Scott's highlight reel at the driver's meetings to show what can happen when you stand too close to the course. :)
So many videos to choose from... how about this one...

You're funny. I think we've all been off the runway at some point or another.

On a more serious note. Results, please.

Had a great time and one of the best course we have ever run at Brooksville. Loved it!

My quickest time of the day and FTD during the second run group until Drew took it from me his last run. :p Oh yeah don't laugh too hard from my "start". And sorry about all the dead time at the beginning. I'm out of town and don't have time to edit it all out.

I think you need to work on your tongue technique. It's all wrong. :-P

Yeah, that cost me a good .3-.4 seconds! Funny thing is, I noticed I was doing it since I turned the camera on me, but I still couldn't keep it in. :whip:

Definitely taking longer than usual. I´ve always been impressed with how quick FAST posts results. Who is posting them up this week? Somebody different than usual?

I remember SCCA used to take so long (weeks) that I would give up on it until I finally just forgot.

Great event. Thanks all! E1 class was seriously competitive. The top four were within .2 of a second. Kyle and I were within .05 of each other. Awesome!

Also thank you to Keith Robertson who always helps me. Appreciate it Keith! I only wish I could implement what you teach me as well as you implement what Danny teaches you. I never did do the finish the way you told me to. Iḿ too busy jerking the wheel and getting behind on the cones!

I want to get a camera one day and point it at me rather than the cones. I could probably make some progress that way.

Ron Rice is our Timing Chief these days, and he's suffering from a back injury. Very likely that he crashed when he got home Saturday after being on his feet all day... and possible that he had a rough day Sunday. Unfortunately, he was also due for a cortisone injection this morning, which could screw up his today!

I'm sure he's monitoring the forum, but I'll go ahead and shoot him an email reminder just in case.

Great course AND a good job by the course tweaking crew that didn't screw it up. If anything they made it better ;)

I think my last run was my fastest but much cone carnage.

Judging from my first run back in the car after Jeremy's FTD run he definitely needed 101% out of the car to do it:

1. Major exhaust leak sprung - Old crusty motor mounts combined with lots of time on the rev limiter probably contributed to this.
2. Seat loosened up a bit
3. "240-spec" Ace Hardware cork to fill in the power antenna hole took flight and disappeared after riding comfortably in the same position for ~ 4yrs

I think complete exhaust system disassembly from the manifold back is on the agenda, probably some loctite in a few places too.

I'm sure the course workers can attest to how horrible the car sounded on my last 3 runs. Great job by those guys/gals in the 3rd group reseting cones quickly. At least 2 runs I could spot corner workers on course on the return side halfway through the turnaround but they quickly got out of the way and kept the event flowing smoothly.

I also agree with moving the worker stations, regardless of where they end up, they should be WAY off of the runway too. I was riding with Vivek on his slide off into the grass, another example of where a worker close to the edge would have been a scary situation. I also find it distracting in general.

Thanks, we do try to keep the Fun in FAST!
I also agree with moving the worker stations...
We're looking for creative ways to beat some sense into our course workers before someone gets run over by a bitchin' Camaro. Discuss here.

Whoa, I guess I had more dust and rust than I thought. Although there were a lot of guys just laying down the rubber! Looks like I'm gonna have a ton-o-fun in E1! Now, where'd I put that credit card.

I watched the video you posted last night. You were just a little behind for the most important parts of the course, which was keeping you off of the throttle where you could have been on it.

Money won't fix that. :geek:

Watch Jeremy's run, then watch yours. Jeremy stays ahead of the course. Yeah, he's not human... but you can still try!
