FWIW, I ran the second group, worked the fourth, I couldn't wait to get the heck out of there and drive one and a half hours home. If I ran first and worked the third group I would be out after that one. I'm not hanging around for stickers.
As it was I ran three times, the first a relative recon run, pushed a little harder on two and three, went off on four and five (in the rain, on slicks), at the end of the fifth run I drove straight to the trailer. That's fair enough, sometimes it rains but srsly, how do you expect someone who drives in one, works in three to stick around to the end of the day, several hours later?

"Several hours"? Seriously?
<rant deleted>
We don't expect you to stick around if you don't want to. Simple as that.

Chris, Unless someone was faster in group 2?
I had a blast in the rain but wish I wouldn't have screwed up that last run. Wanted a 26

No one expects anyone to do anything. We've decided to move the timing of the "awards ceremony." We used to do it in the morning at the driver's meeting - a month later. There was never a guarantee that winners were present to collect, and many weren't. There won't be a guarantee they'll be there now at the end of the event, either. And sure enough many weren't. But for now, the pros outweigh the cons and it's how we're gonna do it.
Several folks have said, in so many words, "I ain't waiting around for no sticker." Ok. No one expects you to, or says you have to. And you'll still be able to claim it at another time, as we're not refusing to distribute the "awards", we're only changing the way we do it.

Run group 2 had 2 dry runs, and part of the group had a dry 3rd run. Then all bets were off...

Yeah I meant in the last few runs. No idea what the conditions were for the fourth group.
Regarding awards I don't bother collecting them but I'd be a lot more likely to stay with fun awards. Sun riders used to do that and those were the only award deals I've stayed for
I do like the time saved in the morning/drivers meeting.

The rain was an issue, and yes it does suck, but we have no control over the weather, it is what it is. September weather in Florida is very unpredictable. No one wants to work in the rain, and when you have to it sucks. As far as the "stickers" go, if you finish in the top three of your class, you are due one, but you don't have to accept it. We all dealt with the weather, I was soaked top to bottom by the end of the day. There were a lot of people that hung around and helped out, and I guarantee they all had soaked shoes.

I was in the fourth group. I was originally hoping it wouldn't rain, but now that I think about it, I'm glad it did. For me, being that it was my very first time, the rain made me go slower and focus more on my braking and turn-in. It also helped me push my car to such limits as to get the back end kick out a little, and because of that I experimented with throttle control instead of letting off and having the back end snap back into place. It was trial and error attempting to steer the back end with the throttle, especially when I knew it was going to hurt my times a little, but I did it anyway to learn how to control my car in such a manner. On my last lap, on the last straight, the rear starting coming out again, so instead of letting off the throttle like before, I gave it even more gas and did a well controlled "drift" all the way through to the last timing lights somewhat sideways! I don't think I would have been able to successfully do that in the dry on my first time out. And I can happily say that I never spun out either! Hell, I'm actually looking forward to driving in the rain again at another event!!
Getting soaked in the rain while working the course didn't bother me so much as worrying about my iPhone getting soaked and/or ruined. Next time I'll bring a little zip-lock baggie with me to put my phone in.
As for the awards, I would rather them be at the end of the event as well instead at the next event in the morning. I want to get out and start driving, not sit and wait. I'm impatient like that.
I would have stuck around for the awards (even though I knew I wasn't getting one) and help out setting the course back up, but I had a nasty headache by the end of the day plus I had company coming into town that I haven't seen since my mother's funeral back in January. As it was, I got home just 10 minutes before the company showed up.
All in all, it was a great day and a great experience, at least for me. I got to meet a lot of great people, see some old faces again, make peace with one particular person which I unfortunately had the wrong idea about for a long time, learned a few things about driving (thanks a bunch Bill Beers!) and what kind of "feelings" to look for as far as when my car is getting near or past its limits.

Leave it in the car, you don't need it while you're working course, anyway!

I didn't say I was using my phone on the course. It was in my pocket which isn't exactly waterproof.
Name me 10 people who leave their phones in their car at these events. Just about everyone I saw there had their phones out at least one time if not more. I also saw quite a bit of use of them with the people out working the course, one in particular which was bugging the piss out of me. Every time I looked over at him, there he was with his phone hanging out of his pocket, texting someone every 5 seconds, trying to be inconspicuous about it. He made it quite obvious actually. I on the other hand left mine in my pocket the entire time while working the course. In fact, the only time I had my phone out ever was when I was behind the guard rails when I was NOT on duty.

Chill, Charles! I wasn't trying to argue with you, just offering an extremely simple solution to your problem. Don't want to get something wet while working course in the rain? Leave it in the car.
I didn't say you were using it on course, nor did I bring what anyone else is doing into the discussion.

Don't worry Loren, I'm cool. I'm just saying I highly doubt anybody leaves their phone in their car.
And I just looked out our apartment window and saw the ugliest aqua/teal blue 2000-ish Mustang fly by with huge chrome spinners, probably 26 inchers! I'm gonna go puke now...

Yeah, I was really hoping for some photos, but there's only maybe 2 dozen if that, and that was only the first group and a little of the second.
