9 Nov: After some consultation, we've adjusted the course a bit to better protect the start. That slightly changes the part of the loop nearest the concrete pad. Note that we're also shooting to start the drivers meeting earlier than usual, so please be ready!

Course map's up! This one's a bit more complex than September's, so we will have the drivers meeting out on course, to make sure everyone knows how it works We'll try and start things a little early as well -- shooting for a 9:30 drivers meeting.

I've attached a PDF version below -- print a copy if you want one at the event.

Really nice layout Jamie. Is that a rolling grid I see?

Wasn't planning on a rolling grid -- that requires people to stay with their cars the whole time. We usually have people leaving their cars to check times, grab some water, or relieve themselves, so a rolling grid would back up towards the finish.

Depending on how the novice mix shakes out, I'm considering putting someone with a neutral flag inbetween stations 2 and 3 to point cars through that gate.

If we have a walk-on response like September, I may resort to the same method for making the fourth run group and just scoop all the stragglers into it.

Yeah, rolling grid is bad news for most events.

From the conversations that Jamie and I have had, the mandatory walk is going to be, well, mandatory. This will be done to insure that everyone knows how the course is set up. This includes ALL DRIVERS no matter if you are a novice or a seasoned driver, we need to make sure everyone that is driving and/or working knows how the course works.

Every driver needs to be prepared to walk the course at 9:30

Kinda holding my tongue here, but I have to say that if a course requires a mandatory walk-through for all drivers... it needs to be improved so that it doesn't.

I'm not going to "press any buttons" this time, but if this doesn't go well, next time I will.

This is the first time we've done a multi-lap course since I've been here, and I'd consider a mandatory walk for that reason even if we were running a constant-direction circuit. As Brian pointed out to me in another conversation, there's alot of chit-chat on the outer edges of the driver's meetings, and it's usually not novices. We're trying something new, and I want to make sure everyone "gets it," including those who believe they already do.

I dig the course Jamie! Seems pretty straight forward to me. Not looking forward to setup though, I hate cone walls. LOL I should really stick to tear down for SPC, but I've got family in town this weekend, and will once again have to jet sooner than later.

So, should I print out an 18x24 poster of the map for the driver's meeting? Reminds me, I need to tweak the Police Course map to show all the tall cones they changed last year.

Anything that makes the police course easier and faster to reset is a great thing.

If you're loking to do a poster, we could really use something to hang on the fence at the entrance gate telling people to check in and sign the waiver. We've been tending to get a steady trickle of later-arriving guests and just curious people wandering by. Drivers have been pretty good about routing them all to the trailer to sign the waiver and all, but it's by happenstance rather than design. If we had something saying "Welcome to FAST! Please check in at registration" (or at at the trailer, or....), we might save ourselves a hassle sometime.

If we go to the trouble of making a sign, let's add "please proceed BEHIND THE GUARDRAIL to your right to the picnic area or trailer to check in". Or else we're just telling people to make a bee-line across the grid to the trailer.

I'll work on that. Might just be a throw-a-way sign for this weekend, but I can probably squeeze in a registration sign or two. Now, where did I put that laminator for the police maps...

Hmm, maybe I can make one that goes on a pole we can put in one of the BIG cones there at SPC. That should be easy enough.

Just hang it on the gate. We should be closing the gate to 2-3 feet to keep cars out but allow foot traffic in, anyway. That's the logical place for a sign.

OR just have one worker assignment be Waiver Person who sits at the gate until relieved and checks wrist bands and makes new arrivals sign up or stand outside. Nothing like having directions upon entry. Getting to be lots of folks with gamie knees doing this racing stuff who cannot run after cones.
