Aaron - it WAS just like old times!

Nice job!
Aaron did nail it! I was awed, stunned and amazed. :thumbwink:
Whoa, whoa, whoa... So surprised, Mr. Williams?
Actually, I cheated by riding with you both before I did my first run. :finger:

Maybe Steve will pay me to not let you ride along next time? :thumbwink:

Gerry's slide would make an awesome animated GIF (is that what they are called?)

Thanks for the pics.

I love the photo, but hate how it gives the illusion that the cars are so close! (sort of like those backside shots that make it look like we're slaloming around the planes in the background... freaky depth-of-field!)

Yep, that was me in that apparent head-on. It was my first run, I think, and it actually did startle me. I almost decided to stop, but didn't. It wasn't as bad as it looks in the picture, but it did flash through my mind at the time that it was definitely not safe. Fortunately, the timing of releases got changed in later runs.

I can't figure out exactly where on course you were in that photo. Anybody know?

I can tell that there are about 5 blocks of distance between you and Brian, so 125 feet, plus at least 75 feet in the other direction... so you were a healthy 145 feet away from each other at this point. But, where I'm not picking up enough cues to tell me where either car is on course.

I was right at the beginning. From the course map, I am at Station 1, just ready to go around the first row of laydown cones and go to the left. If you look through the windshield, you can kind of see the timing lights for the finish line among the cones.

BTW, one of the next times I was lined up waiting to start, poor Ed the starter was being told by one person to release the cars earlier, and by someone else to release later. Anyway, things did get ironed out.

THAT is why I couldn't make sense of it! I saw trees in the background and thought Brian was on the start side. I always forget that there are trees on the other side, too.

Yeah, the starter shouldn't have started you then, and every one of them was told "start when the car on course is in the turn-around or a little earlier, but NEVER later" for just this reason.

I can explain a little bit. The car prior was going pretty slow, so Ed gave a little extra buffer before starting the next car. The end result was that the car starting cut to the inside just as the car finishing cut to the inside. I saw it from inside the trailer and went to tell Ed. I knew that he couldn't see it because the overlap was about 6 seconds into the run so he was already focusing on getting the next car lined up.

I never even noticed the other car, I was so close to the finish anyhow, I really don't think there would've been a issue. Though it was a good idea to fix the start. Cool pic too !

Please pm me. I tried to send a pm to you both, but it seems stuck in the outbox. Is there something I am missing?

In the outbox just means we haven't read it yet.
