This course will require you to study and learn the course ahead of time; look ahead and think ahead while driving it; and has fast and slow sections so judicious use of brakes and throttle will be neceesary to be FAST

It's really not as bad as some of you are making it out to be. It's a pretty well-marked standard course if you look at it from the driver's perspective (you know... like how you'll be DRIVING it). The only non-standard things you'll need to remember: Go right after the green-cone gate at the end of the slalom the first time, left the second time; and at the double-coned apex, you hook a hard right into the loop. Everything else should be driven just like you see it.

Straight, left-hairpin, wiggle, right-decreasing-sweeper, slalom, right-hairpin, straight, hard-right, loop-right, straight, right-decreasing-sweeper, slalom, left-sweeper, straight, pucker, straight, brake, left, finish, brake.

17 elements. Easy.

"Braking" and the "finish" are not really elements, they are actions. (and if I broke it down into "actions"... it would be a long list!)

We used to do maps for everyone, but when we started publishing them before the event and requiring pre-registration and all that, we started throwing away STACKS of maps. I usually suggest that the event chairman print a stack of maps... enough for maybe 20-30% of the entries in addition to some to use for setup. Sometimes they do. Sometimes they don't.

Would be really good for this course.

One nice color map for the trailer next to the worker lists and that's enough for people to look at. I threw out 2 every time even then.

My memory is almost as bad as Tamandli's but I still think this course gives me a good shot, for the first ever time, at Howard and Scott who sit below the cones

That's certainly better than nothing, but I don't think people are going to get better without maps. I think even I could benefit from maps. Course should be walked with a map and used to write down notes on car placement and line and then looked at between runs to make sure you are hitting your marks. If you don't do that, you are probably wasting a lot of time trying to learn the course during your runs and missing marks that you noticed in the morning but then forgot about sometime during the day. That's just how my brain works any way.

And this happens all the time. Someone asks me to ride with them to give advice and I have to say something like "remember that one corner before the other corner with the cones. You were a little off line in that section".

But I can understand how throwing away $5 worth of paper is a huge expense and waste of time for the club.

But really, even if this helps out ONE person. Isn't it worth it?

People who want a map of the course should probably print it out themselves. Some people don't need them, so no reason to waste the paper, ink or the clubs time.
I think it's one more thing to add to the long list the chair and asst. chair would have to do.

I would like to suggest a parade lap for each run group. This would probably prevent a lot of confusion and repetitive questions.

My proposal: Jeremy, the map is available. Since you don't have a printer and can't print things at work, take that file to your local copy shop and have 75 copies printed and bring them to the event. Be sure they get distributed to all drivers. The club will gladly reimburse you $5. (even though the actual cost will be around $7.50 for B&W or $35 for color) Thanks, Jeremy!

Alternately, you can hope that the event chairman follows through with making a few extra copies. They usually do.

Actually they will give you a printer if you buy their $50ea ink cartridges:)

I'm reminded of Steve's attempting to get people to print the SPC forms on line on one sheet the day before the event only to see 10 people do it. So he has to pay to print a shit load of them unnecessarily. I print them out just to make my registration quick and easy and save him a big pile of paper to deal with. Sadly he has to wait for SPC to give him the latest version at the last minute.

I'm seeing alot of folks with Ipods who actually can call up this map on their communications device. I think I can too now on my $37 Tracphone using email. Hmmmm.

Just trying to help you produce quality drivers more quickly. Obviously that is not as important as other things like having a world famous lunch spread.
