The sky's not falling, guys...let's not panic.

Charles -- I'm easy, but I have to buy new race tires, so I'm definitely not cheap!

Matt -- in fact, SCCA already looked into recruiting their own off-duty cop when they got a similar offer from some of the Mustang club guys. Technically, it's possible, but the guard has to go through some extra training the airport requires and jump through a few other hoops. They really don't want larger events...requiring a guard is just a way to ratchet up the pain.

Everyone -- after going through tonights entries, we stand at 50 drivers and 20 guests registered. I will open up the remaining five slots to drivers five minutes after I post this note -- be ready. We can certainly readjust the driver/guest ratio for the next event...I guarantee I'll get 10 notes asking why we can't accomodate additional guests. Personally, whatever our fearless leader Steve directs is fine with me.

As far as what to watch for events opening, watch the FAST schedule on MAE. As soon as an event's open for registration, it'll show that. We announced we were opening the February event at the drivers' meeting on Sunday, too, which is why so many people were ready.

Could be worse...I've seen events in other places fill within a night. Once, we had a D.C.-area autocross fill 150 slots in seven minutes! The answer to that one was offering annual subscriptions like Howard suggested, and letting the rest take their chances with the few remaining spots.

OK -- five minutes from...now

OK -- we have 55 drivers and 20 guests on the list, and the event is full. Anyone who didn't make it, keep an eye out for cancellations -- people can cancel up until the original deadline (7 Feb).

Seeing reports on the "efficiency" and aptitude of the TSA agents we have now... A homeless bum drunk off his ass could do the job just fine :p

1. Those with credit, whether it's the school as a student, or instructor, or assistant, or a past cancellation, do not necessarily have to use the credit at the very next event. So if you missed this one, use it in March, or April, etc.

2. Brooksville dictates who the security guard will be. We can't just pick one up and bring him/her along.

3. More drivers, less guests. I am shocked as the rest of you at how fast this event sold out. I guess no one remembers how bitterly cold last February in B'ville was  . We will definitely adjust the driver/guest ratio in the future. And if that still isn't enough, we'll look into hiring a babysitter, uh, I mean, security guard.

3a. I'll agree with Jamie again, that B'ville is getting less and less user friendly (as is SPC for that matter). No details here, but finding non-regulated/private venues for autocross will be a good thing. Keep your eyes out for possibilities!

4. I forgot to post the registration link on the FAST homepage. I'm sorry. But what Jamie says is right. Regardless of what's posted where, it's MAE that matters. So if you're gonna keep an eye on our events, that is the place to do it. And as cancellations come up (which they probably will, especially if folks are considerate and let us know ahead of time if the can't make it), watching MAE will be the best chance of catching an open spot.

5. To any of you who plan to follow through with "work" for the event even if you weren't able to register - you're good people and we thank you for your dedication and support.

If you still don't have a 2nd for tech... I'd love to.

If not I'll go for tear down.

I'd let you drive my car Bill... but I don't think you'd want to... and I'm already co-driving with Derek to save gas on the trip up.

It was 29 degrees out at the event, 25 degrees on the drive in - according to the S2000.

They won't be allowed onto the site, so they won't be able to work I thought?

I sit corrected! Someone does remember. :)

I was referring to anyone involved in things such as course review - stuff folks do before an event in order to prepare the event.

yeah, sippycup - it's full. there may be cancellations...

This is actually pretty interesting: even though we usually "sold out" preregistration at Brooksville (at 70 drivers), our average driver attendance at Brooksville last year was 46. We had one event (the first, I think) where 60-62 folks showed up. Since then, it's always been around, well, 46 or so...probably more like right about 50 - there was one event with only 35 or so (Feb?) that brought the average for the year down. That's why when the rules at Brooksville changed, we set the limit at around 50 - that's how many usually showed up. Again, very sorry to have to impose the limits - as I posted above, we'll adjust the driver/guest ratio for future.

I don't know what I'm more startled by: how fast registration filled up, or how many guests were registered!

I remember exactly how cold last Feb was. Willemina and I spent a few days making plans and buying supplies (hot chocolate and instant "cappucino") to help the drivers fight the cold. Then the wind kicked up and knocked things over, spilling hot, sticky liquid.

If history dictates, then no waiting list. If someone drops: first come, first serve. I feel your pain, man...I'm in the same boat. Besides, isn't there enough G-class people anyway?

Can I do safety with Muddy?

Unless Ron or someone else was already planning on doing it, then they can have it.

I am also available to provide constructive criticism on course designs. Let me know, and don't worry I will not care if you don't listen to my advice.

Loren is working with me and Scott H. (TracAction) on safety and course review. I just sent him my review of the first course draft. However, I may not be there on the day of the event because I didn't sign up. Check with Loren regarding help on the day of.

Just wondering if I can be assigned a job, because I was planning on spotting/taking photos if I can. That's why I asked for tech/teardown before they were assigned.

Is there any way that is possible?

Yes please.

Meaty you're so right about the ineptness of TSA workers, I've been traveling a lot last and this week, and it's amazing how un-consistant it is from airport to airport. Tampa barely looked at my ID, had no problem with bringing liquids through security and never even looked at the measuring wheel I had in my carry on. In Pensacola, they used a black light to verify a valid ID, they tore through all my stuff and almost didn't let me bring my measuring wheel on board, and made me put all my liquids in a plastic bag.

I have no problem with following the rules, but at least be consistant from airport to airport.
