The photo plan for the day was to camp out at the "pretzel". Also it seems like photo editing software and a few other things have suddenly stopped working on my computerWhen I get that sorted out a few of the "overexposed" and poorly framed shots will be fixed.

Fantastic day at the horse track. Could've done better in my car, but I also finally got to drive Phillip Russell's AP2 s2000 and got a solid run in that. I'll have video for my car soon, and hopefully I can get Phillip's video of my runs in his car soon.

Points have been updated. I rushed through it. Still need to go back and add May 21 and check things over for accuracy. Need to adjust drops, for sure, didn't look at that yet. Just wanted to get this up before dinner. Will be updated later tonight.

OK, so it is FAST that has the extra speaker/mike; always thinking ahead. And it was longer than 6 mos. ago that I had the one starter that I had to send a msg to; haven't had issues since and that's very helpful to the timing team having a starter really being on his/her game. The TT is busy enough keeping an eye on cars & their numbers--who's at the start line, who's on deck, who's on course (1 to 2 cars), did drivers remember to swap numbers in their co-driven cars when they switch drivers, are the times that are registering making sense (v the electronic eyes being tripped by freakin' lovebugs or running course workers), did the number on the car that just finished match the number it registered to on the software active timing window... add listening to inbound radio calls and acknowledging them back, putting in the called penalties, and watching the course using peripheral vision. Kinda' like a traffic control tower. If you watch Ron he makes it look easy but he's been at it for a long, loong time. I think TBD is the one location where I am nearly silent in the trailer because of the focus it requires given the blind spot and limited sight line.Native wrote: Right - that's what the starter is supposed to do - wait for timing to direct. The starter's radio has a corded external speaker / microphone that is supposed to be used, clipped at the collar or "sleeve" of the vest near the starters ear. It's plenty loud, and we started using it about 6 months ago as we learned that the starter cannot hear the hand-held radio speaker well-enough and consistently-enough.

I used to think that timing would be a cushy job, out of the weather, sitting down...Ha! After doing timing many times over the years, I learned that timing is one of the most stressful jobs out there. If I have to do timing before my run, my brain is fried and I can't get any mental focus for driving. Maybe that's just me, but what Soraya described is right on. Not to mention people sticking their heads in to ask for registration forms, change of classing, their registration numbers, the FTD so far, or whatever. The worst is when you have someone whose transmissions sound like BRZDTTPZZRSDTT and they don't change their radio technique even when asked...

BTW, it might be good to point out at the drivers' meeting that there is only one radio communication channel available at a time. Sometimes people "stomp on" another radio call, not waiting for the last communication to complete.

To the brake pad question. The 2500s are one of those hybrid pads that need a little heat to bite. I run them as well, a few stabs of the pedal walking up to the line works for me.

This plus the people that want to know why the scoring shows them hitting a cone because they claim they did not hit any cones, who called the cone or where did they go off course. Timing should be off limits to drivers.puncturina wrote:I used to think that timing would be a cushy job, out of the weather, sitting down...Ha! Dunno. Looks to me like ONLY Tony and Doug get to duke it out in S0 for 2nd place? That's cool. I was struggling for 3rd a month ago. Based on $$ can I get bonus points? My car only cost $12k is 16 years old and I'm turning 70 in November. DOH. AND I paid Steve $10 to kick my ass early in the season. Holy crap, you're old, Doug!
If car cost counts, we only paid $500 for the FASTiva.

Hey you got at least a grand invested in the FASTiva!! You probably paid more for the last set of tires.

Oh, we've probably topped $2500 in total investment including expendables. But, I don't think Doug included his tire/wheel/suspension and repair budget in his $12k price for his RX-8, either. We paid $500 for the Festiva in the same way that he paid $12k for his RX-8.
Our last set of tires was $460.08. 15-inch tires are cheap! That reminds me, I should look at the tire wear... and maybe check the tire pressures.

I have boxes on the way with contents that in theory will make me faster... might need to have a tech day and start exercising (who am I kidding, set up) the press.
