Nexen Tires ?

Postby Solar » Fri May 26, 2017 9:04 pm

Doug I've been praising these tires for a while, I have a new complete set on the Nissan now, I really think they're as good as any performance tire out there. I'm sure once everyone drinks the koolaid the prices will start to inch up. I'm guessing the price difference is due to size demand and availability ? :dunno:

Good to know. Thanks for the :thumbwink: on the new Nexens. They are the lowest priced 200q out there now. $650+sh for the Vette 17"+18". $660+sh for the RX8 in 17".

Nexen Tires ?

Postby Solar » Sat Jul 01, 2017 3:20 pm

I like the Nexens, I don't think theres a better tire out there for the money, yeah maybe the Rivals might have more grip and better heat cycling, maybe, but for the money, Im now a Nexen guy. To me tires are like toilet paper, cheap and expensive brands do the same thing, "butt" the higher priced feels better, though in the end, you're just flushing them down the toliet when you're done using them.

Nexen Tires ?

Postby ImpostorDan » Sun Jul 16, 2017 9:34 pm

Epilogue - stardate 07162017.

Yesterday I drove the nexen's into oblivion. Actually, I only drove just one tire into oblivion but that will be enough to call it as they're both event and DD duty.

The stats - I've netted just over 5k on the road and 9 classic events. From this, I can say I got at least 72 runs before the shoulder began to de-laminate mildly on just one tire (my bad yo). I'm not a good measure for neatness in runs and should never be used as a benchmark for a run potential counter. I killed a set of Kumhos in 51 runs and 3k, a set of RS3's in about 100 runs and 4000 miles...

Sooo... with that said, there was definitely more rubber to be had. The center's were just onto the wear bars, but alignment and double duty killed the shoulder (including a flip). I think there was another classic event in there had I not noticed the tire was under inflated after run 5... dooh, fail. On price, by run count, it was a wash over RS3's as when I bought at $102 or 6, RS3's were $12X... in that time.

From a dual purpose standpoint, cold grip was good (RS3's occasionally got the best of me!) , price was great, driving around with no water sipes might be a turn off...

All in, I may be ordering these up again.

Nexen Tires ?

Cash is King. The RS4's are significantly cheaper than the G4 Nexens are now (greedy bastards). I'll let you know after next weekend what I think scruffing RS4's in on a T+T. My wife said "whee" on the break in of the second 50 miles. Enough for me next season for a whole year? My 4 year NOS old Rivals lasted well over 100 runs ( but I got my ass kicked the last 1/2 of this season other than Farm Truck being insane and killing me by 1.4 seconds). Watch the SCCA results on 22nd. :dunno: Oh, there's the FAST Finale. Bitchin' -2* alignment nearly all around and new tires. Also proper attitude. Yes. I'm practicing. Are you? :read:

If you'd back off all the Fat Monday dinners with beer and BS you'd have enough $$ to buy whatever you want free and clear. You will never beat the Mayor if I know for sure we're racing!! Just buy some shit tires to get you there, co-drive someone else's trick car in Mod with great setup and keep your camber at -3* all around. It is what it is. Big Camber Short Springs Racing. :binky:

You want to run my stock big wheeled S2 (STX) car with new tires and less than -2* in M2 on July 30th Finale in PM? Cost you a $10 bet. Steve can do it in both cars (damn him). Then you can lose twice or win twice and not have to buy any tires at all. :snore:

Maybe Drew's car will still be broken and he can run in M0 with my S2 car (S1 next year)? Possibilities are almost endless. T Shirt. T Shirt. T Shirt. vs Balls/Talent/Cash?

I'm leaning toward another set of Nexen as well. The image below is after between 205-210 runs between myself and my co-driver plus travel between events and home. I'm not sure of the exact run number since my car was used a few times for safety check runs, but that has to be close. There isn't a lot of groove (if any) at the shoulders, but there is still 1/32 to the wear bars in the central grooves. And they still have a pretty solid level of stick as well. I have been very happy with these tires.

Racing... because golf only requires one ball.
