Bottom bolt (the one the alternator pivots on) was pretty chewed up and it's mounting hole on the block is a bit more than round. Not sure what to do about that. I think the lower bolt was allowing some movement of the alternator which put stress on the upper mounting bolt attached to the tensioner that was beyond the capabilities of the bolt. Then, snap.
New lower bolt has far less movement and with everything torqued down, hopefully it will stay put. Added a couple of zip ties to keep tensioner in place if the bolt breaks again. Replaced upper bolt with grade 10.9 bolt which is the metric equivalent to Grade 8. We shall see.
It it's an aluminum block you are screwed. If it's cast iron you need a thread fixer thingie.

Joe B destroyed SCCA B Street in my B Street car with worn 240 tires in 2016. What would he do with RE71's in 2017? Be careful what you wish for. Joe can run any car in M2....even an S2 car with a new Exedy clutch/flywheel. Drew beat you all with an old slipping clutch in the same car on the same tires not long ago in 2016. Yowser.
Joe vs Drew vs Matt vs Doug? Been there done that. Drew won.
Yeah but with Drew playing in M0 and if Joe had played in stock class, the rest of us mortals had a chance... It just wasn't meant to be.

Point is those two guys would win M classes in stock S cars. It's not over until it's over. Don't hear a fat lady singing. Are you the fat lady now?

Ron is going to drive my wife's 93 Crown Vic at the next Classic @ the Dog Track. Because she says he can. Maybe wife will ride with him in luxury? It's been so long since we had a run off between Brian and Ron with a full house at a Classic in a four door. That will be fun to watch. No contest for me against those guys.

The only threaded part is on the alternator. Bolt just goes through a hole that it's been wiggling around in some. Could drill it round again and sleeve it, or use a bolt with a bigger shank and thread it down for the alt or drill and tap the alt hole larger. It's fixable if it's going to be a problem.

Drew, the hole in question is on a bracket that's bolted to the block. You could replace it if you had to. On earlier Miatae, that bracket is cast iron. I believe yours is aluminum. Held on by 3-4 bolts.

But, if you've got the pivot bolt good and tight, it shouldn't be a problem.

You know, one of these days we're gonna get a wild hair and put a 1.8 into the FASTiva and run M0. We'd have to replace the transmission every few months, but it might be worth it.

Drew's so fast he breaks alternator bracket bolts. That's darn fast. :thumbwink:
