For my runs it was wet, almost dry, "dry" with a few splatters of wet spots, full wet, RX-8 drift fun wet.

It was a dry run. Good thing I decided to pass on a 3rd sandwich for lunch. I'm sure that bit of extra weight savings made all the differance.

If need be I can go back to doing corner captain work, in addition to my normal duties, to help with training. I know that is one thing I miss about SPC, it allowed for a better training environment given the more intimate setting.

I'm not going to ask people to do multiple work assignments unless we're severely short-handed. But, if you're ever bored and want to go out and do something extra, let me or Steve know. Especially on those days when we have "barely enough" people. We can always find a place for an experienced body.

Month total Rain for Brooksville is 4x more than average. Yikes.

This was a fun event like usual. The return section punished me all morning, just couldn't look far enough ahead to not get behind. The wet runs in the afternoon slowed me down enough to actually see how I was supposed to be driving. Actually beat my overall time from the morning during my wet runs lol still did more than 10 seconds better than my first ever event under better conditions.

Also can we please have the helmets cleaned? The moisture we've been receiving lately has gotten them... gross.

He luckily has it registered, because they had a tire blow out on the trailer it was on going to the event.

That was Johnny's daily driver up to about 2 years ago. I still don't quite understand why he opted to cut up a perfect RX-8. He said he tried to sell it, but nobody would give him what it was worth, so he just decided to have fun with it. And that, he did.

He still drives it regularly.

In a way, timing sort of does this, as well. Especially when there are sharp and experienced people in timing, like Ron or Soroya. They're going to see things happen and take action.

This is exactly what I had to do in the morning. We had a car in the dirt, and the course got flagged reasonably well. I think I may have been looking at the laptop's screen, but the call "red flag" came over the radio that's a cue for everyone holding one to look up at the course. If you are holding a flag, immediately wave it when hearing that call. The car went back on the airstrip, but was not instructed to come back down the middle - it went back on course. So I called out to the corners to flag the car again and to have the driver come down the middle. It took a couple of repetitions but the car did get stopped and sent on the right path. You don't have to be rude or even yell - you just have to be insistent until the instructions sink in.

As for training new people for corner duties, I usually hold the radio and flag first and discuss everything I am doing and why. Somewhere in the second runs, I ask the new person to switch --most will-- a few say they're not comfortable yet, so I'll do another 6-7 runs and tell them to watch carefully because they will get the radio then. Once I am running cones, unless it's a massacre or another car is coming, I have time to yell instructions over my shoulder as I sprint off if they haven't started a call. Push come to shove, I can coach them through the call when I come back - it doesn't have to be immediate so long as it gets called in. I know it's very tempting to socialize or get sucked into watching cool cars go by, and I've been guilty of that here and there, but with new people the captain really should concentrate on teaching them how to handle all corner tasks. Safety is #1, but an efficient run group means less time out standing working the corner
