Hello Daniel

Thanks for the encouragement. Do not worry, I am not depressed - just old! :wise:

I am improving. The runs feel faster and look faster. Looking at these last videos, went WOW did I go that fast. I actually timed the runs on the video to make sure they were at real time LOL.

BTW, working the event (esp grid) is also fun for me. sometimes too hot, sometimes too wet, still like hanging out with everyone.

I especially like autocross because everyone looks like a bald ET while they pilot their rocket ship.

I had a blast at this event. Several people suggested making minimal changes to the setup and just focusing on the nut behind the wheel. I think the M3 is decently dialed in so I'm going take that advice and really just focus on my driving in the upcoming events. I need to get more folks to ride with me to see if they have any pointers or notice any bad habits. Looking forward to the stiff competition in M2!

On another topic, we (all of us) need to discuss something. (not saying you're doing anything wrong, Mike, you just instigated a thought)

There seems to be a lot of "optional car placement" going on, or at least being talked about. There are a handful of instances where that's perfectly okay. But, there are other instances where it's NOT. Your car should only be competing in a class that it is eligible for. You can't just "bump up" randomly outside of what the rules allow.

For instance. S4 cars (that are in HS) can "bump down" to S5. Likewise, they can "bump back up" to S4. They have that option. HS cars can run in either S4 or S5, with S5 having some restrictions. THAT IS THE ONLY "bumping" that should ever happen in Stock! You can't bump from S4 to S3, or from S1 to S0. That's not how it works. In most cases, there is not a "linear" progression between the stock classes. S3, for instance is just DIFFERENT from S4. Different kinds of cars. Not necessarily faster on an autocross course. Very course dependent.

In Modified, there's a similar "bump down" situation from M3 to M4.

And in Modified, if your power mods exceed the limits of the class, you get bumped up ONE CLASS from your base class. So, if you started in M3, you'd bump to M2. That doesn't mean you get to decide "I'm going to run in M1 because there's less competition" (or better competition). An overpowered M3 car goes to M2. Period. There are no "double class bumps".

The exception being M0. It's the unlimited class (as long as safety rules are met). And if you want to tell us you belong in the unlimited class, we're going to take your word for it.

I've just been seeing and hearing about way too much "Oh, I'll just bump myself up in this class" talk lately.
This is a thankful insight. I always thought that running in a "higher" class with a shit or decent stock car would allow the great drivers with less experience and nice cars to get a T shirt in a lower class. Then I watched the National Champions destroy the "new" points with an "occasional" practice session (which a couple offered to stay out of feeling guilty). I won't show up for 2pts for a 1st or 2nd finish again. Poo.

Having run in M2 with an S2 car for one lonely 3rd sticker a couple years ago and R1 last season with 100 wear tires (to allow others to excel in Stock)while I still got a T Shirt for 2nd fair and square even running in the afternoon heat and rain. Hmmmmm.

I believe I have the answer for myself and it will be available for yall in the next Open event/season. 3 cars in two classes can still be fun for me.

So true, no longer can run a 10K, having a difficult time bench pressing 250lbs. but putting on the brain bucket behind the wheel of a mustang (owned a '67 GT350 also in 1970) takes me back to my twenties - a major stretch I know. feel that I can still keep up. :smack:

So anyone else hear a big clunk near the turn around area?

I paid attention after that happened and there was a pothole right at the end of the braking point if you were a little off line. I think that's what caused the clunk.
