Tried to use my free event (for working the novice school) but they did not give me that option when transferred to PayPal. How do I do this?

I'd be happy to cover safety unless it's taken. If no one steps up for supplies, I can do that too, just get me a list of what's needed. I can also go get lunch at Mykonos, but I'm getting a gyro for myself.
Steve will have to cover safety while I'm out getting lunch though.

Well, ok, if I have to...Steve will have to cover safety while I'm out getting lunch though.
Supply-wise, and someone correct me if I'm wrong - I seem to recall we have 4 cases of water, so we'll need about 4 more. We do NOT have a lot of soda left, though, so, several 12-packs of a variety, please. Probably 6 bags of ice.
We're good on radio batteries. Someone that morning will need to take the gas can and get gas for the generator. Um, I think that's it.

I thought Ron volunteered for Safety?
I'd be happy to review your course map if you have one ready.

I'm about to go sign up for the event, so I can say that one of the Flowers will be towing the trailer.
It might end up being just me and then I'll have to find a car to co-drive. That part isn't clear yet.
There is also a possibility that this will be my last autocross with FAST unless the immigration attorneys can pull a rabbit out of their hat in the next month.

Why don't you start a new thread somewhere and post the course map? Let everyone give comments on it. Maybe we can have an intelligent discussion on course design and everyone can eventually learn what makes a good course, instead of two or three relatively inexperienced designers taking a random shot and hoping to come out with a winner.TracAction wrote:Your right. Missed that one it was getting late I guess. Ok Ron I'll send you a draft of the Course tonight.
I don't understand why course designs are kept secret and no one wants outside help. It's a weird phenomenon that happens every month.
This is not directed at the current chairman, this happens every month. I just want to help people have better course designs, but no one is interested in learning.

Jeremy, that's why I've always made it a point to train our "safety" folks on much more than just safety. They are our last line of defense against newb course design mistakes and they know it.
Most people keep their design drafts "secret" because they want the course to be "their" design. They will often collaborate with a few people, not with "everyone". I've found that most people are VERY accomodating of the suggestions that are given to them in their "safety review", as long as they've started the design process early enough to have time to make revisions.
While it would be a good learning exercise, trying to design a course "by committee" on this forum would be another one of those endless discussions. I know *I* wouldn't want to try to design a course that way, too much input from people with too many different ideas on how things should be. (the typical "too fast, too slow, too tight, too loose, too many slaloms, too many cones, too wide, too narrow"... can't please everyone)
However, YOU might take it upon yourself to do a sort of online course design class in just that manner. People can learn in just the way you propose... and maybe someday someone will actually use the resultant course design or parts of it... but it doesn't need to be intended as a course for a specific event. Get my drift? Maybe start with "here's a typical course design that a first-time course designer might come up with... let's discuss what's right with it, what's wrong with it, and how we can make it better". And go from there.

+1. Scott sent me an initial draft and I returned some comments. He's sending it for safety review (and additional comments)...should be a reasonable result.Loren wrote:Most people...will often collaborate with a few people, not with "everyone". If Roger Johnson or Karen Babb were teaching, it would be a boon. Local talent needs to simply step up and chair or co-chair an event, which entitles you to take your best shot and ask for as little or as much help as you want. However, YOU might take it upon yourself to do a sort of online course design class in just that manner.
