l also saw quite a bit of use of them with the people out working the course, one in particular which was bugging the piss out of me. Every time I looked over at him, there he was with his phone hanging out of his pocket, texting someone every 5 seconds, trying to be inconspicuous about it. He made it quite obvious actually. I on the other hand left mine in my pocket the entire time while working the course. In fact, the only time I had my phone out ever was when I was behind the guard rails when I was NOT on duty.

We take coursework seriously. In the future, if you, or anyone sees that, call it in so we can correct it please.

Or just tell them yourself if they're at your station. They're responsible for watching your back as much as you are theirs. They can't watch your back if they're focused on a phone, feel free to tell them that! (politely, of course)

You want sympathy? From us? Drove an hour to SPC...helped unpack the trailer, supervised the course check, changed tires, adjusted the run groups. Drove in the second group, one recon run, two decent runs, three sliding around in the rain, on slicks. Had some outstanding barbeque while fretting about the weather and when to start the third group. Volunteered to watch someone's kid while I changed back to street tires. Helped pack up the trailer and reset the police course after awards. Grabbed some wings at Beef's, gassed up, and drove an hour home. Slept well that night!

If that doesn't work, call it in to the timing trailer. I guarantee if I'm working in the trailer, doing safety, or chairing the event, we'll stop until the phone comes off the course. The mention of "no phones while working" is in the drivers meeting for a reason. As motorsports go, autocross is very safe, but it's not risk free...and the greatest risk is to courseworkers who don't see a car coming at them. We accept risk...we don't accept stupidity. If someone insists on being stupid, we'll invite them to do it somewhere else. (politely, of course)

A big thanks to everyone who let me ride along. This was my first autocross event. I'll be running the course myself, next time

Great event, superb food, liked the course - simple but you still had to do it right to be FAST.

I really like end of the day awards. I was actually surprised that they were handed out before the trailer was loaded.

This waterproof baggie is pretty good. I needed it for my electronic car key and remote at the beach and the autocross event when my poncho doesn't totally work. So I bought one for my wife too. It will float if you trap a little air in it but they say "don't swim underwater" with it.

Just be super careful getting the cardboard instructions out of it or it will tear. Bending it in the middle works pretty good. My wife can even get her modern cell phone in it. I have to take the antenna off my old style one to make it bearly fit. I leave cell phone in locked car so normally a moot point.
