Just wondering if I can be assigned a job, because I was planning on spotting/taking photos if I can. That's why I asked for tech/teardown before they were assigned.
Is there any way that is possible?

Kim Christina had already asked for that position ahead of you. We will most likely use 3 run groups which will give you about 1-1/2 run groups to take pictures of. You might contact Jamie to see what assignments are
left. He might be able to able to set up something to give you more time to take photos. I didnot mean to take so long in answering your post.
Thanks mike (bama_rebel2000)

Since it's still possible that people will drop out (and others replace them) in the next few weeks, I haven't even drafted out run groups and work positions, and won't until after the 7th. Everyone working during a run group is needed and fully engaged. If I have more people than I can use, the extras get a bye from working...it happens occasionally. We already have people voluntarily doing a pre- or post-event assignment and working a position during an event, plus those wonderful people who worked a shift and then stay around to help clean up.

Kim, I'd be happy to drive any car. But you're right: one co-driver is enough.MusicalDeity wrote:I'd let you drive my car Bill... but I don't think you'd want to... and I'm already co-driving with Derek to save gas on the trip up.
Yang, I'll take you up on the offer to drive your S2000 (finally, a chance behind the wheel of an AP2).
The Jag complains about autoX by throwing Gearbox Faults.
I think it is just lazy.

Well, my new tires are mounted and ready. I'm interested to see how well they work on the nice surface at the B-ville.
I'm back to dedicated auto-x tires, which will be nice for my streets. I did manage to get about 20k out of them with almost a full year of auto-x, and they still had some tread left. The 5 (!!!) nails over various tires were not welcome though.

On the way out it's messed up where the map "splits".. the last cone in the slalom on the first part of the map (bottom) is taken on the left, as is the first cone on the second part (top).. should there be another cone in there or is the red line wrong? If the red line is wrong it makes it easier, fine with me

It'll be fast, mid 30s to low 40s seems to be about average if my memory serves me correctly for our events at Brooksville.oilleak wrote:Just an observation, not criticism - The course is only about 1100 feet long (each way) and, with the exception of the chicago box, pretty fast. The faster cars should be in the mid 30 second range. Just seems short.
My concern is the finish, it's going to be fast again, adn only 175' of stopping distance, which won't be a problem for me (since I hit the brakes right after the lights) but we'll be getting the usual post event messages about it being too short.. I think the finish should be slower or the chute longer.
I wonder if I should buy new tires for the damn car I'm selling now, or wait until I actually hit the wear bars, which may be during this autocross

BTW, red line still looks wrong to me

Lest we spend the next 2 weeks bitching about the course:
1. It's kinda short and kinda quick. That's okay. A 35-second course means a 20-second start interval, and that means it's REALLY easy to get in lots of runs. Don't like it? YOU chair the next event and YOU can design a course that you like.
2. We're going to pre-drive the course in the morning after initial setup. If speeds are too fast anywhere, we'll slow them down. If the finish is wrong, we'll make it right. All of these things can be acheived with minor changes to a few key cones BEFORE competition begins.
3. If the red line seems wrong to you, visualize it being right. <shrug>

The red line is still wrong.
On the finish, note that the slalom shuts down quickly - 75' - 60' - 50'
That ought to scrub a good bit of speed off although it also poses the risk of damaged timing equipment. Looks okay to my eye though.
At a 45mph average speed, it's a 35 second course.
EDIT - it's just constructive criticism Loren. I'll be there even if there's nothing but a pivot cone on the far end...

I know, I know. But I also know how these discussions snowball, and it's very discouraging to a first-time course designer. Trust me, we safety guys beat Mike up enough just getting the course to where it is. And it's a good course! Might need some minor tweaking, but it will work.oilleak wrote:EDIT - it's just constructive criticism Loren. I'll be there even if there's nothing but a pivot cone on the far end...

Loren, you should know that I am personally fine with the finish and such, I'm not one of the ones that complained about it - ever that I can recall. I can move my foot to the brake pedal before I'm halfway down the finish chute.. I wasn't trying to bitch about the course for two weeks at all, but to try to eliminate the two weeks of bitching that will happen after the event from othersLoren wrote:I know, I know. It's impossible to visualize the red line being right though, it clearly shows a slalom with two left hand slalom cones, placed in different areas (one on a seam, one in the middle of a "block") in a row, which doesn't make it a slalom. I know the course can change anyways, but if someone drives it the way it's marked, they will get an off course....
I hope Mike doesn't take these posts as bitching, it's not intended that way.
Again, not bitching at all, more trying to prevent the bitching that will come.
