let me tell you how stupid I feel for taking the turn around in 2nd. in retrospect, lugging the engine at 3-4k rpm with peak power at near 9 rpm was dumb
the fastiva probably exited that turn faster hahaha

Don't throw the "kindness to the workers" card...you can lay out a semicircle with three cones.Loren wrote:Mostly out of kindness to the course workers and those doing setup! One or two apex cones to pick up beats 20.Jamie wrote:...but Loren rarely lays out circular turnarounds.
I also like a turn-around that makes you think. Turning around on that 150' wide slab of concrete is a necessary evil for EVERY Brooksville course. Simple no-brainer skidpad turns are boring!

I meant in comparison to a full "skidpad circle" kind of thing. I'm more a fan of minimal cones when I can get away with it.

Push Harder - Drive as close to the limit of your tires as possible.

Nope. But the hint to everyone else is: most of Loren's turnarounds are not laid down as circles, and if you stick close to the cones (as we taught for circular skidpads), you'll normally find a "gotcha" that forces you off the optimum line. Just sayin', look for it.Loren wrote:I meant in comparison to a full "skidpad circle" kind of thing. I'm more a fan of minimal cones when I can get away with it.
That's not unique to Loren, or to FAST -- the art of course design is in part creating illusions and visual intimidation the driver has to see past to drive the course quickly. Apex cones offset a bit. Walls that don't constrain you. Think of it as the autocross equivalent of blind or off camber corners (although a few sites can offer those, too!).

After bumping into a wall on the way to the October Open event, it was great to make it to this one without incident. My brother (Ed in the white Geo Prizm) and I had a great time. I liked the simplicity of this course, in that it forced you to take the correct line in order to succeed.
S5 is suddenly full of people! Last season I almost had it by participation alone! I'm gonna have to get those Toyos sooner than I expected; these General Altimaxes just won't cut it any more.
Oh, and here's the video of my best run of the day (40.173). I was off the line and not pushing as hard as I could have, hence why I lost to the 3 speed Prizm.

The fast way through and where the cones are placed.. Sometimes don't line up(and honestly good designs should make you think) Loren is always good for a few "tricks". And by tricks I don't mean bad.. The whole point is to drive a racing line(but not have it spelled out)
