The one place I know of is Allen's Sporting Goods in Seminole. They sell it in 50 lb bags. I'd imagine other sporting goods stores may have it.

Maybe someone over in that neck of the woods could plan to grab a bag or 2 for us?
That would be great! I am located quite a ways North of Seminole.

Yes, it would be great if someone were to do that.

Or does anyone know of another source?

Mr. Event Chair (Chris),

I can help with tear-down. I meant to request this in my registration but forgot. Also, if you are light on course workers, I can help out there too.

Thanks

It looks like I can make it. Just registered. Is there a work position in timing still available? If so, I'll take it. Thanks!

For this we have radios ... when they work. (And they usually work.)

Still good stuff, Bill. Let's say you're running after a cone that's 100 yards away, and you've left your corner captain with the radio on the sidelines where he's supposed to be. These hand signals beat trying to YELL at him to let him know the score.

Hold the cone up: "This cone counts!"
Adjust the cone and "safe" it: "This cone doesn't count"

Also lets anyone else who's watching know what's going on.

I actually miss running sans radios. Fewer corner workers required (one per station is usually enough) and a cone spotter or two at the timing trailer. I was wondering the other day how we used to run 10-car heats back in the day... that's how!

Back in the day, everyone ran on smaller sites, so the timing crew wasn't usually trying to make out hand signals at corner stations a quarter-mile away (although I do remember our keeping a set of binoculars at timing for events at Chanute AFB). To fit, the courses tended to be more technical, or we did multiple laps.

Never only one worker on a station, even back then.

Line Marking powder

Postby snookwheel » Thu Nov 05, 2009 10:28 am

Hearing can be difficult working the course, especially if one of those #@$*&% FM cars are running!

BTW, I have checked around and cannot find line marking powder anywhere in the North County. Can someone near Alan's Sporting goods in Seminole confirm that they can please pick up a couple bags?

Here is a link to their address: http://www.allen-sports.com/contactus.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thanks, Scott

I don't really know where seminole is, but I have to imagine someone that's pre registered probably lives fairly close. Please keep in mind you will be reimbursed for the purchase the day of the event.

I'm close enough and can pick them up this saturday with my truck. I was waiting to hear back from Steve about storage of the bags. I don't have a place to keep them out of any possible weather and I don't exactly trust my bed cover.

Hold the presses! I just talked the maint. guy for the ball park down the road in to selling me a couple bags! He will only sell me two, so if you think we will need more, Alan's may still need a visit.

Two oughta be plenty, especially if whoever lines the course uses up what's already in the spreader (or doesn't go crazy with a thick line...).

SO, thanks Scott - that's great. And Eric, we can hit you up for purchase and storage next time. At 50 pounds a bag, and used only every other month, probably no sense dragging too much of it around in the trailer.
