Wow, looks like most of the first place champions are decided, but there are a bunch of 2nd place positions up for grabs still with some potential surprises at the last event depending on who shows up in which class and how well they do. How exciting!Native wrote:Fresh Season Points get 'em while they're hot!

Regarding courseworkers and their locations and any other safety issues - any time anyone sees a potentially unsafe situation, please feel free to say something to the Safety Marshal, or event chair, or me, or the guys in the trailer, or really anyone with a radio so something can be done about it at the time it's going on.

I'll second that! Kinda silly to bring it up AFTER the event. If something is wrong, let us know and we'll fix it.Native wrote:Regarding courseworkers and their locations and any other safety issues - any time anyone sees a potentially unsafe situation, please feel free to say something to the Safety Marshal, or event chair, or me, or the guys in the trailer, or really anyone with a radio so something can be done about it at the time it's going on.
Worker stations are one of those things that we can take our best educated guess as to where they need to be and where will be "safe" (pro tip: there are no "safe" places out there, course working is inherently dangerous). But, when it comes down to it, only the workers and drivers can see whether or not we guessed right. So, if you, as a driver, find a worker station to be unnecessarily in your path or otherwise distracting, TELL US. And if you, as a worker, feel like you're in a particularly vulnerable position, MOVE.
Okay, the horse is dead now.

Re: June 2011 Event
About those pesky Elises...
Okay, really, we love Elises. They're like Miatas, only way cooler and mo' betta.
But, someone pointed out that one of our Elises was misclassed at this event due to wearing "race tires" in a "stock" class. The problem is that Elises come from the factory with tires that have a treadwear rating as low as 60... in other words, a "race tire". Now, we all know that anything with less than 140 treadwear is not considered a street tire under our rules. But, we can't expect the new guy in the Lotus to know that. So, we (all of us) need to remember to check what class the new guys Elises are registered in, verify their tires, and discuss this with them if necessary.
Unfortunately, even though the car is completely "stock", having better tires than anyone else in class is allowed to have gives them an unfair advantage (as if driving an Elise wasn't enough of an advantage!). We've always chosen to go with "rules are rules" and "race tires are race tires" when this situation comes up.
So, sorry Lotus guys, but if you want to run in our "stock" class, you'll need to put real "street tires" on your car. You may find that some of the better street tires like Kumho XS and Hankook S3 will give you nearly the same grip while complying with the "street tire" rule. Or just run in a race tire class and enjoy as much grip as your face can stand.

Just make sure there isn't a 5' wide alleyway (it felt that skinny anyway) we've got to drive through....actually, you'll need to chair an event so you can design your own course (with safety's approval of course).

Re: June 2011 Event
As a driver of one of those "pesky Elises" I would like to respond to Loren and defend Lotus drivers everywhere
. Since Don's Elise was running in the A Mod race Tire class the misclassed Elise you refer to must be mine. I don't believe that I was misclassed. The Toyo tires I run have a 140 treadwear which is within the rules. Dave Davenport ran a few FAST events with his Exige which came with Yoko 048 Advans and a treadwear of about 40 and he was eventually classed in the A Mod Race Tire class. Nobody at Brooksville spoke to me about my tires. Am I correct to assume that I am in the correct street tire class with my Toyo's at 140tw?

Re: June 2011 Event
Street tires are DOT approved tires with treadwear rating of 140 or above.
Yep. You're ok. Thanks for the clarification.

Yep, we're talking about you! Apparently, your accuser (who shall remain anonymous) didn't look closely enough at your tires and made an incorrect assumption based on the Toyo brand and an "R" in the model name.Gregbj8 wrote:As a driver of one of those "pesky Elises" I would like to respond to Loren and defend Lotus drivers everywhere. Talk to each other, folks! Or at least LOOK at a tire before you assume it's not a "street tire". Every DOT approved tire has a treadwear rating stamped on it somewhere.
Thanks for clearing this up, Greg. I still think your pesky Elise is sexy.

Re: June 2011 Event
There is hope, high mile cars (~50,000) are below $25,000. They are dead reliable due to the Toyota "inerds" and you can all of your own service work if you wish. The cars with "Track Pack" have the Advan 048's and about 40tw. If anyone is interested in buying one I will assist in the search. Daily driving would be tough due to ingress/exit issues with the top on. A/C almost works well.
