It is time once again for the world famous FAST annual novice school! March 17, 7:30am-5:30pm at SPC.

Registration (for students) for this event will open February 1.

Who is the school for?
Anyone who wants to learn to autocross! No experience necessary.

Who is excluded?
Anyone who already knows how to autocross! If you've done more than 6 autocrosses, you're not our target audience. And if you've done more than 6, you should really consider volunteering to help work or instruct rather than enrolling as a student.

We'll need about a dozen instructors and at least 8 course workers for this event. We can't come close to paying you for your time, but we do offer volunteers event credit to show our appreciation. One credit for instructors, two credits for course workers. Oh, and you get lunch, too. You know that's a deal you can't pass up. No one wants to see us beg.

By the time this comes around, I would have done more than 6 events... Should I work, then?

No, the Gymkhana doesn't really count. I say you're eligible as a "student". We can make exceptions to that rule, too. We just don't want experienced people taking up student slots that novices could really benefit from just because they want the seat time.

I might as well volunteer for the 4th year as a worker.

If you need instructors I will do that, but only if you want them to learn to drive slower...

Ed (and anyone else on the fence about instructing), we're "teaching fundamentals", not "demonstrating how to be fast". As long as you know the fundamentals and are capable of observing a student and offering some good feedback, you'll be a good instructor. All they generally need is for someone to tell them what they're doing wrong and how to go about fixing it. You don't have to be "one of the fast guys" to be able to do that.

And each group will have multiple instructors, so if you run across a student that you aren't able to help for whatever reason (maybe he's so close to "right" that you can't offer any more suggestions, or so "wrong" that you don't know where to start, or just not picking up what you're laying down... whatever), one of the other instructors on your team should be able to help them.

Of course we need workers, too. It's usually harder to fill the instructor list, though.

Go for instructing Ed! It's a blast. I would love to do it again. The group I was with last year, we constantly switched who we were riding with anyway to make sure things kept moving quickly. Like Loren said, you're pretty much just watching for the basics then usually getting them to push the car further, but you may have to suggest they back off a bit. You'll do good as an instructor.

Brian, I'll put you down as instructor for now and bump you to worker later, if we get a run on instructors.

Joe, I apologize but I can't place your last name. Could you let me know so I can put it on the list? Thanks.

Sounds good, either way it's a win win, either instruct and get 1 credit, or shag cones, get some sun and 2 credits
