I happend to pop the hood on the miata with the engine running and noticed a good amount of wobble on the crank pulley. Tore it down and found the woodruff key on the crank was broken in two and wearing out the key way.

I salavaged a good timing cog and pulley boss from a parts motor and bought a new bolt, key and, loctite. I followed the directions for a Short nose failure and it seemed to work. Took the car out for a quick rip yesterday after letting the loctite sit for 2+days and checking the timing and, it feels stronger than ever before. Grand total spend on the fix ~$30

Better watch out at SPC.... 8)

Nice work! I wonder if I have the same issue on my 96. Lots of pulley wobble as well.

The quick way is to try to turn the crank bolt with a 21mm socket, mine was finger tight and practically came off in my hand.

Oh yes, where would we be without Loctite and JB Weld?
