The FAST Test & Tune - April 13, 2013
Instead of a "novice school" this year, we're doing something for our "somewhat less novice" drivers. An opportunity for you to shake-down your car, fine tune your suspension, dial in your tire pressures, and yes... maybe even improve your driving skills with some additional seat time.
Because this is not a novice school and we're not doing formal instruction, we are limiting entry to our "regulars". To start, we're going to define that as those drivers who have attended at least 3 FAST autocross events in the past 6 months. We want to give the "FAST faithful" the first shot at this opportunity to learn and improve! (Not sure how many events you've done? Check here. Near as I can tell, there should be at least 60 people eligible.)
If this event doesn't fill up within a couple weeks, we may relax that limitation, but in no case will we allow first-timers into this event. A regular event will be much better suited for a first-timer.
Entry will be limited to 32 drivers, which should make for about as much testing and tuning as anyone could want in one day. Because we'll be out there all day, lunch will be included. All for the bargain price of $60.
With the limited number of drivers, we'll be able to allow more guests than usual. So, if you want to bring someone to write down your times, check your tire pressures or tread temperatures, or to bring you drinks with little umbrellas in them between runs or whatever, you'll likely be able to do that. Just be sure they get registered as a guest before the guest slots run out.
Chairing this event will be Howard Sharf (you'll recognize him as the guy who gets FTD at almost every FAST event he attends) and Ron Rice (you'll recognize him as the guy who sets up the timing equipment to record Howard's really fast times). Howard probably chime in here and share some of his ideas for the event. He's put on this sort of event before, so you'll be in good hands.
Lastly, for those who don't have the money to pay for this event, or are just so good that you don't need it... we will be accepting a limited number of qualified and experienced volunteers to help work this event. To help the entrants get more out of the event, we want to have some workers on-hand to chase cones, work the timing system (which could involve some writing or manual data entry), and just help keep things moving in general. If you're interested, PM or email me. You'll get not one, but TWO event credits for your efforts. We'll even feed you!
Registration for this event is opening 1am Wednesday... just a few hours from now. (registration for the April 14 regular event will probably open Thursday)

Myautoevents.com site is not accepting entries for this event yet. I've tried several times this morning.

Is reg not open, or is it giving an error?
Looks to me like T&T reg is open.

One of two things: either they have changed something so that it hides the submit if required fields are blank, or it's just busted.
If nobody gets in by tonight, I will look at it.

It's a bug on the site when using Firefox. If you miss a required field and then go back the submit button is deactivated. Just reload the page and don't miss any required fields.

Re: The FAST Test & Tune - April 13, 2013
We are awaiting an upgrade to do segment timing. If we have it, we will have two courses of three main elements each with segment timing. If we don't have segment timing we will have courses set with fewer but similar elements so that times reflect the the same types of manuvers. In the past we have only had eight or so drivers so we picked up our own cones. Since this will be a little larger, we will have a little more organization. No course maps will be needed since the lay outs will be simple. In order to get the most out of your time, you should plan what you want to test, make sure you have the tools needed for the adjustments, and maybe practice doing them so you don't waste too much time with the changes.

Kinda surprised to see only 10 drivers signed up for this so far. Gonna hold out for another week, then I'll start relaxing the entry requirements a bit. We don't need the event to fill up, but I'd like to see more than 10 entries.
Also, the offer is still open to earn 2 event credits for working this event. Surprisingly little response to that, as well.

I might take you up on this offer, my autocross budget is pretty thin as of late, if I can't afford to run Saturday at the T&T I will work it. Just waiting to see what my work schedule looks like for the next month.Loren wrote:

I'll keep a list, but as of now, until there are more entries for the T&T, I can't accept any more workers. (at least not for credit... if you just want to come help, you're more than welcome, let me know and I'll put you on the entry list)

To be fair with Gerry.Gerry wrote:Volunteer here. Loren_Inbox++
If you're willing to be the morning pickup up ice/water/gas AND initially order/pay/pickup the Cuban's from Masarkytown Cafe I'll let you have my "worker spot". Oh and you have to fill in where ever Howard tells you all day too:)
I really don't need anymore "comp days" so it's time to share. Anyhow if you're still up for it pm me and I'll put Loren and Howard in the loop to make it be so.

Sure. PM me the details and what not. I'd imagine ice and drinks would be minimal, since its only a few people. What about Sunday, Doug? Got it covered still?

No matter what I'll come out in the afternoon Saturday (will get on list) to set up the course for Sunday. Be nice if a couple people hung around to help do that. I picked up enough soda for Sunday on sale but will need someone to get the water and ice and maybe gas if none left over from Sat. I'll pm you, et al, the details.Gerry wrote:Sure. Remember, we have a Sunday setup crew. Just having the cones out will take a good 30 minutes from their workload. You don't really need to do much Saturday.

Seems like most tasks are already covered but since I will be staying in the area Saturday night, if there is any kind of cleanup or setup help needed Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning just let me know.

Thanks, Vivek. Saturday should be pretty casual. Just in case nobody got the memo, be there at 9am! I'll be manning the gate from 8:45-9:15 on Saturday. With less than 20 people coming, I shouldn't need to be there any longer than that.
Gonna be a fun weekend!
