seats

Postby eborn986 » Tue Jun 18, 2013 1:23 pm

I think I've finally narrowed down my seat choice to just a couple and I want some help.

I'm looking at the Procar by Scat Drifter series or 1790 series.

The drifter series seats are vinyl and the 1790's are Velour... I know that in general leather/vinyl are slick and not as good for holding you in place, but in this case they are both fixed back seats with pretty nice support. Also, I'm not sure where velour fits on that scale - I assume it fits right in between cloth and leather.

Additionally, I think (though I can't find confirmation thus far) that the 1790's are a steel frame seat and the drifters are fiberglass.

Both accommodate 5-pt harness and both are extremely budget friendly so I can get a passenger seat as well...

I'm going to scan craigslist/ebay for corbeau, sparco, momo, brides before I buy one of these, but wanted some opinions on these from you guys first!

Thanks in advance.

Don't buy steel frame seats, they are uncomfortable and dangerous. The steel tube hits behind your thighs and if you wreck you could possibly be impaled by the tube. Not sure if that's true or not. But I wouldn't risk it.

Pretty sure fiberglass, side mount is what you want.

Thanks Jeremy - I had heard as much as composite being better than steel frame, but not that steel frame is dangerous. I'm going to go with the drifter series. now just have to decide vinyl, velour or canvas.

Hopefully going to have a chance to go to Summit sometime this summer and hopefully they have a couple that I can sit in.

Think of how hot that vinyl is going to be your car has been sitting in the sun all day. It may be easy to clean, but that should not be a concern......because racecar!

Good point Drew,

So vinyl is out - I'm leaning towards canvas over velour... I think that will be most similar to stock feel, and honestly - i like my stock seats, they just don't have the support.

Thanks again everyone for the input!
