Heard someone around here makes/sells magnetic numbers?

Hey there,

Had a great time yesterday at TBD. I've driven in 3 FAST races now and I'm ready to commit to a number. I heard that someone around here makes/sells the magnetic #s for cars. Can anyone help direct me to said individual (or to anywhere that has what I'm looking for)?

Thanks!
Derek

I'm new around here also and not to steal business away from anyone. But I have the ability to make vinyl or magnetic numbers.

My color selection is limited since it's just a side thing. But I have the main colors, silver, white, black, red, blue, pink. If another color is needed and not a one time thing I can buy it as well. Or if it's a special color like carbon fiber or chrome or something we could talk about what it would cost to get.

I can also make static cling numbers for windows. Never tried them on paint before. Maybe I should experiment.

To avoid disappointment and frustration, be sure to secure your number before you have them made:

Static cling works well on a good paint finish. Used them on my Saturn back in the day. Also used some disposable ones that I cut from shelf paper.

Also, be sure to give this a read before getting all crazy with your numbers:

It's all about legibility. Big. Bold. Contrast. Make them easy to read from a distance!

This is important for us since we have a two driver car and both want different numbers is easier to make a solid magnet with number to cover my vinyl numbers.

So last night we went and secured our numbers.

So I'm not too good with colors do you guys think red or gold would be more visible on my gray s2000?

It really depends on what shade of gray.

Red is generally considered a "dark" color. Doesn't contrast with black or dark blue or any other dark color. So, if your gray is dark, red won't "pop".

If it's a light grey, sort of like a silver, then red might work. Red being dark, contrasts well with "light" colors.

Honestly, if it's dark grey, go with white. If it's light grey, go with black. Simple. Very transferable to a lot of other cars.

If you really want red, send me a good photo of your car and I can Photoshop it and see how it looks. or you could do a big white "meatball" with red numbers in it.

Neither one's a very good choice. There's a reason military aircraft have used red markings in the past -- they blend in to most color schemes from a distance. Gold (muted yellow) and light blue are much the same.

http://snook.ca/technical/colour_contrast/colour.html is a pretty good contrast analyzer. Play with it -- you'll see red is a poor choice for anything except white and grays approaching white. Gold is almost the opposite -- shows well against very dark gray or black.

Grays are hard to work, but for a medium-to-light gray, go black, or a meatball with a contrasting color.

Loren, thanks for all the info. Is there a link somewhere that'll tell me which #s are still available?

Look for the permanent number event in Aug 2014. The entry list will tell you what's taken.
