May 3 - FAST Classic at SPC

This will be our first "Classic" at SPC, which makes it about as classic as it could possibly be, because SPC is where we got our start!

There's no space for us to do a practice element at SPC like we've been doing at Brooksville, but we've got a great course planned and it is one that will allow us to do LOTS of runs.

For those who are new, "Classic" events are for experienced autocrossers, there's no novice walk or formal instruction offered. Just good old-fashioned autocross with people who already know how to do it. We don't start too early, and we don't stay too late, we just have a lot of fun!

Registration is open now through April 30.

I decided to invite the handful of "old school" Sunriders autocrossers who helped shape this club back in the day. I only had contact info for a few of them. If you happen to be one who autocrossed with Sunriders way back when, get signed up for this event! And also help spread the word to anyone who might not be in the loop. It's about time we "got the band back together" for a little reunion. A Classic autocross at SPC seemed like the perfect opportunity.

By the way, Drew will be co-chairing this event with me. He's awesome like that. He's got the itch to do something special for lunch... if we get enough entries to support it, we'll look into it.

Oh, and the course is another variation on a previous course. It was very well regarded, and very few (if any) changes were made to it. I just redrew the map on our new template and did away with some of the cone walls and the chalk line because this is a Classic event and we don't need that stuff. Just follow the green apex cones in the sweepers. 3 apexes right, 3 apexes left. Easy.

This is about a 36-second course with opportunity for about 10 seconds of overlap. Meaning we can pretty easily do about a 26-second start interval. What does that mean to you? It means we can shuffle about 135 runs per hour through this course. With 3+ hours of run-time at a Classic event, that means at least 400 runs for the day. If we SELL OUT the event at 60 drivers (which we haven't done at a Classic yet, but we could), we should still be able to get in 7 runs. If we get the typical 45 drivers, we're looking at 8-9 runs per driver. Previous FTD on this course was 34.5 seconds. Can you beat it?

I even found a video of Jeremy's FTD run on the previous iteration of this course:

Bummer, Jesse!

Well, I stocked up on soft drinks at Publix today. We should be good for the next 3 events.

BTW, I was just thinking last night... we don't have room to do a practice element separate from the course at SPC, but if there is interest, we COULD do a skidpad in that big open space in the middle of the course and let people run it during lunch. Wouldn't take much to set it up.

Picking up a new (2nd and will be AutoCross) car (90 Foxbody Mustang) on Saturday. If the car is running decent I'll sign up with it on Sunday. Have yet to see the car, as it's in Orlando.

It's similar to the Ampersand, but not quite.

This is the infamous Ampersand course.
