April 25 - FAST Classic T&T

The FAST Spring Test & Tune! This event will be run as a typical FAST Classic event, but we'll have a test slalom and a figure 8 skidpad available for drivers to test on when they are not driving the regular autocross course. It's a lot like what we do for a school event, except without any formal instruction and without the cost associated with a school. A great opportunity to experiment with suspension and tire pressure settings, or to just practice some of the primary autocross elements. Feel free to arrange your own instructor!

Being a Classic, "some experience is required". If you've done 3 or more autocross events, you're welcome to attend this event.

More info and registration here:
http://msreg.com/FAST-Classic-25Apr2015

Registration closes April 20 at 6pm.

And, of course, our reminder emails to Verizon are still bouncing.

I'll be there and will be happy to show someone(s) with less (or more) experience around the skidpad or slalom (or the whole course). ( 8-) )

I'll be riding in a very large boat (not Nathan's car this time) for a few weeks.

Enjoy your opportunity to improve while I get fatter and lazy. I'll be back come June with a brand new tune.

The winner of this event will be the slalom champion of 2015.

This is the "spin it or win it" challenge! We put the slalom right up the middle, so you can drive it as hard as you want without fear of spinning into the grass.

BTW, taking that slalom in the return direction it is very much a decreasing-spaced slalom. It will sneak up on you, beat you up and steal your lunch money.

Time's running out, just 4 days left to register for this one!

It's a great learning opporunity, I'm surprised more people aren't signed up already. How often do you get free time to practice on a skidpad or a slalom?

If things are going smoothly, I'll probably have some time for coaching, as well. But, I'm just gonna tell you to push harder and suck less. ;)

I think the "competition slalom" course on top of a slalom test and tune event won't help matters. If attendance stays low, couldn't we easily do a "1 car on course" course with minimal overlap and still get 8,000 runs?

I need slalom practice as much as the next guy but.....

I'd like to bring my son to this event, he has never ax'd before. I don't propose to let him make timed runs on the course, only let him practice on the test portion of the runway so I can record time temps. What do you think?

Attendance is low, sure, why not? But you'll have to shadow him for course work and such. No hand-holding available at a Classic.

Was going to sign up, but the guys at Van Steel are trying to get me in at the Goodguys Autocross in Kissimmee that weekend. I'm sure I'll have my ass handed to me, but it'll be interesting to see how I and the car do against some national big dogs in some killer machines.

I think you're underestimating the challenge of this course. It's simple. Slalom, skidpad and some lead-in/lead-out elements. But that slalom is not as simple as it looks.

Outgoing is straight-up fun, a couple tight cones and then wide-open acceleration through the rest. Returning, it's straight-up CHALLENGING. The last time we did a decreasing slalom like this, people were spinning all over the place (that's why this one is in the middle of the runway), and very few people ever got it right!

The skidpad turn-around is easy... IF you're really, really good at skidpad turns. If you aren't, then the cones on the outside will get in your way. It's going to require confidence in your ability to trace that tight line AND estimate the required speed correctly. Not as easy as it looks. A typical turn-around gives you a LOT more room for error. This one, you'll either drive too slow, or hit cones from trying to go too fast... unless you're really practiced at the art of skidpad.

So, I wasn't kidding... come show us how it's done! It will be a challenging course to drive consistently fast even though it looks really simple on paper.
