autocross at Seminole High school - worth a look?

Not sure if this is news to anyone but me, but I recently learned that Bert Smith is sponsoring an autocross at Seminole High School. It may be for the Porsche club only, but I'm not sure.
I'm more curious to know how well it works there. The lot at SHS is roughly 500x300 (same length as SPC, but narrower at one end and wider at the other).
It's on Jan 12 (Novice school day). Don't suppose anyone has time to check it out, and (if it looks like something we'd like to pursue) find out who the school connection is?

I'm surprized that they can hold a event there at all. Seminole High is smack dab in the middle of a residential area, and being a ex-resident of Seminole, I know that the city can be really anal about noise.
It would be great if we could get a couple of events there, it's close to a bunch of restaurants and there's a C-store right across the street.

If I weren't instructing at the school, I'd probably show up there to terrorize the Porsche drivers. One of the parents from the robotics team has a 911, and mentioned it to me on Sunday. He offered me a co-drive, but I had to politely decline.
I told him I'd take him up on his offer some other time

Have at it man! And like I said, if it looks do-able for us, see if you can get a contact.

No problem. Do you guys know any more about the event besides it just being there? I checked around the Porsche Clubs and I didn't see anything listed. I typically like to drop in and say hi before showing up.

page 12. There's a quarter-page add, bottom right. That's all I know, either.
Phoenixracer, appreciate your willingness to check it out. I know you're new to the forum, but that's all I know - so no offense, but do you feel able to judge the site for size, safety, practicality, etc? Do you have a sense of what our criteria would be, and whether or not it may be worth our making an attempt to use the site? If yes, great! If not, might be worth getting some input from others here, and/or taking someone with you...?

As someone who lives a few blocks from there, and may or may not enjoy rainy nights on that lot  I can say that the surface is fantastic - level and smooth. I don't know enough to comment on feasibility for an event. Two sides have small drainage ditches running the length - another has a fence/buildings. There is a median in one corner.
If the site can handle Porsche power...

Hey man, thats a good point and you are probably right. Either way, I'm going to take a look for myself. You guys don't know me, and it would probably be most beneficial for you to send someone over there that you know and trust to have a look. Someone who could better represent the thoughts and views that the majority of you share. Something that, lets be honest, I have no idea about. Whoever goes post up and I'll say hello on Saturday if I recognize you!

If it's the lot I think it is, it's way too small. Curbs on all sides. No access to additional parking areas without going out to the street.
It's literally right around the corner from Ron's house... if it's the place I think it is.

Just as an FYI, it is Porsche only...

I live right next to Osceola Loren - and their lot won't do. 6"-8" curbs, curb islands, and it is small....
I don't know about Seminole HS - but I can take a look. I did look at it on Google Earth, and it looks small and cramped with building close on two sides. I'll drive by though.
Two other bits of news - Tara had the baby - it's a boy! Aidan Royce - both are at home doing well. I also moved my law office to Seminole over the holidays.

+1, I got my return call from the coordinator this morning. She said that its porsche only this time, and that in the next few months they may do a bmw one and cycle through. I'm still going to go hang out and take a peek for fun since I wasn't able to get in to the school. Will let you guys know what it looks like, from my opinion.

Scratch my comments, then. I was thinking of the wrong place.
Congrats on the baby, Ron!

I'm getting ready to saunter down to my parents house to throw the new seat bushings in the Z3, then head to Seminole High with the video camera, and then make my way down to the Allstate campus to take a look around. If anyone feels like going, send me your phone number via email, and I will give you a call when I'm done with the car. My goal is Seminole High at 1:30pm.

ive asked the drift guys, but have you guys too looked at the parking next to the bucs training center? Its the old mall on MLK, and its pretty huge lot that is never used.

i was there for about 20 minutes before I went down to check out the allstate instructional stuff. I recorded a decent amount of footage and would be happy to show it to anyone interested tomorrow... provided I get my 02 sensor fixed tonight so that my car runs... go figure, it breaks on the way back from the allstate campus. wish me luck. I found a compatible one from advanced auto parts, now just waiting for a ride to go to walmart and grab a 22mm wrench, the only one I don't have.

I know it's a bit of a distance, but there is a HUGE paved lot on the northeast corner of the intersection of I-4 and US-27. I drive by and think, "this would be perfect for an autocross course". I've never stopped and asked anyone about it, but the place is massive. I don't know what the surface is like, but it's so big that I'm sure a good course could be found if they allowed us to run there. Just a thought.

This video isn't the greatest, but here is the one I took right before my car broke.
