13 Sep Post Event

Postby jev61 » Sun Sep 13, 2015 10:40 am

I hope everyone was safe this morning, we decided to leave once the thunderstorms began. It looks like those that stayed may get a few runs without dodging lightening strikes. Good luck everyone.

Philip, I look forward to your report of the tires and wheels.

My clothes won't be dry until tomorrow. Much faster in the afternoon on a dry surface, Loren's fastiva beat Mario and Elliot was 5th. See, the afternoon runs ARE faster.

No videos yet? Here's my third run. Pretty happy with my 51.251 and 13th overall, although AWD on a rain day is a little like cheating. Great time Steve, and noticed that Sx cars took 10 places of the top 20!

Had a great time! I had a hard time managing the grid, as it kept reshuffling and I lost track of my co-drivers and they ended up having to do back-to-back runs at the end, but they didn't seem to mind too much. We had several re-runs in the last group and were minus a teardown crew, but we finished up pretty much on schedule, so I'd say everybody pitched in and got it done. Good job everybody!

Regarding my podium finish, I'd like to thank the weather for putting a damper (dampener? ) on competitive times from the morning run groups. I'd also like to thank re-classing for moving the S2000s out of M2. Special thanks to Ron Rice for getting up early after a long weekend of debauchery, driving straight from Daytona to the airport, and showing up not so crisp for competition.

Steve needs motivated by President Harrison!! Go Steve.

He beat me by .847 which is 1/2 of what King of Brooksville Loren beat me by:) All hail King Loren.

Anyone at least in the afternoon who didn't have fun just wasn't smiling :dunno:

TONY....we got you!! You can run but you cannot hide. Okay you got me by .4 but Steve got you by .4 and I was obviously his tire warmer AND intertainment on my 2nd run. Pretty funny my first run was 51.680 so I thought I could get you too. Damn. At least I didn't lose to Fastiva!!

Haha! Secretary Alexander Hamilton graces the sawbuck. President Harrison doesn't appear on any bills I've seen. Steve should get to trade up to a Jackson just for that!

In spite of a very wet start, we had a great day of autocrossing. The lightning passed quickly. The rain took a little longer, but was still done before the end of the first run group. The second run group was mostly dry. And the afternoon was just peachy!

Loooots of first-time autocrossers today, and I think they all had a good time. It was really weird not doing a proper novice walk, but we did the best we could given the weather, and tried to not give the afternoon drivers any more of an advantage over the morning drivers than they already had by virtue of dry pavement.

Results are up... have been since before awards were handed out at the event!

For those that didn't hear:

Our next event on September 27th is a FAST Classic, which usually means an event that is restricted to drivers with a minimum of 3 events of autocross experience. For THIS event only, if you were present at today's event, even if you have only done that ONE event, you can register for the Classic on the 27th. Registration is open, go do it!

And, OMG did I ever get it from all sides today, last night, and pretty much all of this week from a wide variety of people who don't seem to understand our guest policy at Brooksville. Y'all need to read the event info when you're registering for an event! All drivers and guests must be registered prior to the close of online registration, which is the Monday before the event. We have no latitude to deviate from this policy, it comes to us from the Airport Authority... it's their site, we like holding events there, so we follow their rules. PLEASE don't be one of those people who makes me tell you "no" so many times that I get annoyed and snippy with you. "No" means "no", and it's not my fault if you (or whever you let register you) chose not to read all of the event info. </rant>

The day certainly got off to a soggy start, but the cooler temperatures for the morning group certainly was welcome. I don't think I even broke a sweat. And though I can't say that was my favorite course ever (that box on the return side gave me fits) I finally beat Shelby Mike!!

I was in the morning first run group, and I will say I had a great time chatting in the trailer during the rain storm with Steve, Loren, and Ron, it was the best part of my whole day ! 8-) (it really was nice)

Couldn't get any traction, when I tried to adjust to the track conditions, it made no difference, either I spun or I babied it, which is no fun. Glad we have event drops.

The 240 is running rich again, having issues with the MAF, I cleaned it and it idles fine but I still get that rotten egg smell, thinking maybe a fuel pressure regulator ?

Even though it was a wet day, I still had a really good time, got to see some "morning" people I don't normally see. It was really nice to see Mike and Dave back out there after a long absence; you guys are still part of the cog. ;)

Driving home got really scary when I got into Tampa, it was pouring hard on the Veterans and there were a few times when I was hydroplaning badly. Got really bad once, I won't poo for a week.

Pictures will be out tomorrow.

I'll have a longer review of the tires later but for now all I will say is that they make this my car feel better and faster, much faster!

That video is exactly what I wanted to see... but, I'm not sure what I can learn from it.

Awesome day, even though I really only had 1 decentish run. I got behind the wheel of the Festy for my first run and promptly ignored all of the FWD advice I've been given and tried to drive it like my Miata. Two turn's later all I could think was "I have no idea what I'm doing". It's been a while since I felt that clueless behind the wheel. I made fun of Loren a bit for fangirling over the car so much, but I'm starting to understand and fangirl a little myself. It's kinda cool driving a car that has a fan club.

Also, major props to Phillip for working all day in the sun taking pictures!
