The dip was harsh but I really enjoyed the elevation changes.

I'll bring a leaf blower next time :)

Yes the dip was truly harsh. I heard many cars bottom out going over it. I have a newly painted front spoiler and just could not get myself to do that, you can see me crawl across it in my videos which I will post later.

That was very fun today, too bad I coned away my best runs. Doug Adams suggested last event I may have heat cycled my tire too many times this year. See how I did that?

That first set of runs was a handful: dirt, gravel, and sand everywhere. It was obvious watching the second run group the racing line got cleaned as they began laying down some competitive times. See, I did it again.

So lemme start off by trying to squash any rumors that may rumble around here, there, or elsewhere:
Yes, midway through the day a resident from the neighborhood across the river stopped by the trailer to let us know how loud we were being, and that he wanted us to stop immediately. Yes, he was very angry, cursing, being sarcastic, and yes, at one point did threaten physical aggression. NOTHING HAPPENED. Just words, and he left. He did come back later and sat in his vehicle, and watched for a good while. As we were cleaning up, a Tampa police officer stopped by and told us that they had received 4 911 calls about us. He informed us that we were doing nothing wrong. He was very pleasant, and we thanked him for his time. Which may have been 2 minutes, 3 tops.

And that's all that happened. If you must, direct any questions to me, please.

Now, on to my thoughts on the day: :thewave:

I thoroughly enjoyed the event, the site, the people, and the immense cooperation from everyone. Nicely done, folks! We ran ahead of schedule all day, did 8 runs, had a real lunch break, and were all done and ready to go before 2. And it didn't rain!

My driving, well, I've been griping about not wanting to drive my GTI, and well, I still don't. I coned 5 of my runs (6 if you count the test-run I did during setup, and several more if you count the ones in grid), but I must say that 3 of those were with the inside back tire - just misjudged how wide that car is. The others were spectacular understeer. My old all-seasons are now into the wearbars and chunked, in front anyway. At times, I'd turn the steering wheel and get absolutely no direction change, until, wait for it, ... right...about...now. Heather rode all 8 runs with me, and gave me some great driving tips, which were very much appreciated and did find me much time! Did I still have fun? Heck yeah I did! :thumbwink:

Joe Vance...see how he did that? :)

Some interesting challenges to this site, and definitely a nice change from runways.

Indeed! For as much as he was complaining about how awful the car was on this course... Ben laid it down.

...sometimes it only takes a little push to bring it home.

I see where Ben was shaving off a few thousandths of a second. If you drive over the base of the cone, it's a shorter line.

And I guess Josh wanted to join the three wheeling club. Lifting the front wheel counts, right?

Man that was a fun Classic event. And thanks to me not really caring about being faster than anyone except Mr. Vance, I get to keep a few excuses in the quiver. Thanks Joe! :thumbwink:

Some great photos, and we haven't even heard from Philip yet!

The cop I was talking with was the son of Randy Lamb, who some of you may remember. He's run with us in the past.

Ron, your depth-of-field makes those photos look bizarre! That brick wall that's ACROSS THE STREET looks 20 feet away.

I'm just happy they were in focus. First attempt at grabbing a few shots with the new camera today, so I'll take it.
Oh, and did I mention I was faster than Joe Vance?

I had a great time today, but the car might not have had as much fun as I did. The new springs are a bit too stiff and made the car a handful in the bumps, and I never got the entry into the first horseshoe right thanks to that steep dip in the middle. I had to brake, turn, downshift, wince, and look ahead all at one. I managed to do the first 4, but not while maintaining a good line. After my final run, the car decided it wasnt going to crank anymore, but the friendly late crew gave me a push-start. Turns out we drove the car so hard the starter signal wire fell off! :dunno:

I always tell people to turn early, you can blame Loren for drilling it into my head.
