June 18th Post Event Father's Day Eve

Hard to believe I got home after the awards ceremony and even stopped to fill up the car with $1 gas using my discount cards by 3pm.
This was a beautiful normal hot summer day. We voted at the driver's meeting to have no rain. Clear skies all day long. The die hards had set up a timed circle to calculate "g" forces after awards but I had had more than enough driving the Fastiva 3x for the first time and then finished my total of 8 runs in the Rx8. Many people took advantage of hopping cars like the Classic always seems to encourage. Everyone had a blast. I believe there were about 30 runs on my Rx8 by mostly better drivers than me. I was impressed with the tight grouping of all the M2 drivers who took turns seeing what it could do. They were all only separated by .2 of a sec. That's impressive driving my car with no torque.
They were all in the 53 second band which was fast for most people on street tires. Not quite as fast as their normal cars in M2 but fast all the same. I was very happy with the results of todays experiment to find out just how fast my car is supposed to be!!
At the end of the day "off the record" Drew was able to pull out a final clean 52.760 run which if you look at the final standings you will be impressed for a stock S2 car on NOS 3 year old Rivals I got from Tire Rack. They stick really well and they were 1/2 price:) I'd do that again anytime.
I beat a couple people ending up 7th out of 10 in M3 but I would have been 4th out of 4 in the Fastiva had it counted in M4. Soraya won the M4 class by .7 sec. She was flying. The Fastiva has a learning curve that is a straight vertical line leading to a flat plateau but it actually handles very very well and I improved 6 seconds on my second run clean. Ben gave me one of the wildest rides of my life in that car during my rest break and it's a good thing I rode along. It is something that has to be experienced to be understood. Excellent no frills race car

It handles so well once you "get it" that you only need about 37HP of the 42 still available to be fast in it. They totally beat my times in the Rx8!!
Soraya brought an awesome lunch from a place I never heard of in Spring Hill. She also really impressed me with a quick clean 55 second first cold run with me in the Rx8. Not a lot of people can do that. Reminded me a lot of when Philip drove it for the first time!! Fearless.
If you weren't there you missed another great fun filled happy event. This may have been the high point of my Father's Day weekend? Way better than a tie.

Did you know that Yokohama S.Drive's squeal like pigs? And did you know that rear seat passengers make a car go faster? These are the sort of things you can learn at a Classic event, you should try one some time soon. P.S: Don't let Philip drive your car. That one is free.

Great course, great people, great day. I just wish I didn't hit so many cones! I swear they just jump out at me.

I had fun.
Delicious lunch and I managed not to over-over do it with the empanadas.
A race tire pulled up a chunk of wire-reinforced concrete patching a pavement joint during the first run group exposing a tap con masonry screw set into the ground, took a second to fix, but it was dealt with quickly and efficiently.
Good to see Benji back in the land of rubber marbles and exhaust fumes. He thoroughly entertained me in the Festy.
Philip jumped in my car and showed me how tentative I am where I should be fast and how much I over-drive it where I need to dial it back. I saw what he did, but I still can't seem to emulate it.
Drew let me drive the Crustang and I actually am really impressed. The non-ABS brakes have great feedback and gentle throttle application is rewarded. It will get round a cone, too-- if you know what you're doing. Clutch throw is comically long, mismatched to a great short throw shifter. Neat car. Also, what a janky tub that thing is. How it does what it does is beyond me.
I drove Ron's car for my last two runs and nearly bettered my best time. What it does right it does right, and it's so close to perfect but not there. Keep tuning, Big Blue!

Why is Loren the "King of Brooksville" even still?
I didn't want a tie for Father's Day so every one in M2 and M4 handed me my ass by a large margin. I should have settled for another red tie.
Even tho' Drew was able to pull off the stellar end of the day 9th (not kosher recorded) run of 52.760 which would have won M2 even tho' slower than his Mustang.
Loren "The Still Reigning King of Brooksville" was able to beat me soundly in two cars. His FWD Fastiva and my own Prescription Rx8 in very few runs.

Joe Go Brannon. Could he get any closer?
Did you notice how much grass was out there?
Joe finished 5th and Matt finished 6th in an S2 stock car that Joe has never driven before. This was the early morning runs on cold tires.
Joe was .094 out of 4th. John Evan's car finished first two years ago with Loren co-driving.
Joe was .211 second out of the 3rd trophy sticker in my stock car he has never driven before. Ron Rice's car used to be owned by Jason of the Argonaut which also kicked butt a couple years ago.
Joe was .262 second out of 2nd trophy sticker in my stock S2 car. Brandon has a 2016 STI and Joe drove a 2004 Rx8 with ONLY 232HP and 110ft/lb of torque.
Guess anyone who needs a co-driver next year better talk to Joe. I am blown away by the M people who drove my stock S2 car today.
I need to drive like them. Shall I mention again that Drew would have still won M2 with my stock car with his 4th run in it? Damn.
I am obviously very good at sorting a car out for autocross. Too bad I suck so bad anymore driving them to see how good they are.

No problem. As you might have guessed my Dr is a motorhead with more cars than I have with twice the combined HP. His name is: "Dr. Referral". (What I call him. Like the Stig.) He sends me places I have never been.

Okay, so Loren came up with using the skidpad to see what kind of Gs could be pulled and actually come up with a number for everyone. Somehow that led to an evening of me doing math. Funny how that works. (If anyone cares how the values were derived, I'll let you know. Just didn't feel like explaining it now.)
So here are the numbers;
Let the bench racing begin!
Only the Exocet was able to pull more than 1 G. The Fastiva is pretty impressive, but the numbers make sense when you think of the times that car is capable of posting. Everyone's times were slower with the passenger side to the cones (except Phil

).
As to the event itself, that was a blast. Thanks go out to everyone for making it so.

Our 193,000 mile engine made 63 hp and 73 ft/lbs of torque 26 years ago. It's anybody's guess how much less power it makes now.
Time to take some more weight out of the car.

Thanks for the mathing, Ron! BTW, I'm pretty sure my "cheat sheet" was based on a 60' radius instead of a 50' radius. And if you want more accurate G numbers, you should probably use a 52' radius to better represent the circle that most of us were actually driving.
I'm unimpressed with my .92G. The car should honestly be pulling right around .96-.98, maybe more... I just wasn't pushing it hard enough. The .86 happened because the car was fuel-starving going CW. About the last 1/8 of the lap, I was coasting!

I had messed up my first run with way too much throttle. After fixing my mistake I'm surprised how well my car did. All that body roll must help me get some dynamic camber I guess, and a 8in wide rim

If you take your counter clockwise and use a 52' radius you would get 0.95g. Doug would have pulled 1.10g on his counter clockwise run using 52'.

Those numbers sound more accurate.
