No more trash talk from me for a couple weeks at least.
You all are into the locomotion. Does anyone other than me remember that dance? Probably not many. The slalom was good for that.
Okay I showed up late and was only the lunch guy so didn't bother to put up any timed laps to embarrass myself with. Doesn't matter. Got to enjoy a beautiful day with yall. Got to interact with two groups of drivers. It's cool that both the leaders of those groups told my students to do the opposite of whatever I told them. They improved. You can never do worse listening to the Mayor
Minor observations. I noticed the group I did the circles with almost to the person did a closer arc on the passenger rotation (cw) rather than the driver's side rotation (ccw). Perhaps that is because you were looking ahead further? Good job both ways. Did you notice when you went the same speed into the smaller circle you pushed out? Good for you. This was Ron Rice's group.
Zig Zag sewing machine element everyone I rode with seemed to benefit from my professional Ballast. Also the double slalom with me as the professional ballast seemed to make you all run nearly perfect with that fixed speed Locomotion Dance. Food for thought. When your car is weight balanced it handles differently than when there's 150-250LBs on only one side. A couple light cars (any Miata or the Cobra) can consider bringing a friend to ride along and kick butt on turns in both directions.
Watching the final runs. You all looked very FAST. I'm sure you all improved by many seconds from the morning runs. You all learned that it's ONE run that determines the winner. Right? Good for you all.
Phillip is still kicking his butt for telling Loren which direction to take the final slalom not knowing he had one run left (and never walked the course). Poor Philip. Always the instructor even if by accident. Loren went the "right" way his final run. Ben may have had the sweetest looking slaloms of the day driving my Vette for the first time with it's fat ass and torque. Probably cost him the victory in the Fastiva. BUT he is praiseworthy of his skill jumping into a real car.
Did anyone else notice that Drew's quick Miata has the same peeling paint starting on the right side as his old crusty Mustang?
I didn't see anyone without a smile on their face today. I expect to get my butt kicked by some of you on Nov 6th in the OA times even with my better tires on the Vette.

That was a whole lot of fun. The weather was perfect, made it feel a lot shorter than an almost 11 hour day! Food was fantastic, as was the company. Thanks everyone for a perfect day.

Seems to me, if I say so myself, that today worked out really well and was a huge success! Anyone agree? Post up! Anyone disagree and have feedback to make it better next time? Post up!
Thanks very much to the students who came out and participated - we love getting you freshies "up to speed" - even some of you who might be a bit more advanced. We really appreciate your interest, and the chance for us to share our enthusiasm for our sport. And ya'll posted big improvement numbers! I recall some of you were in double digit percentage gains. That's a 4 second improvement on a 40ish second course - wow! Well done.
Mayor - bang-up lunch! Thank you, sir!
Loren, Ben - you two make for excellent competition. We were all within mere 10ths of each other today. Good times! And what you've done to that car - holy sh*t. Between a little power, truly lively handling, and that intake growl, I am impressed, and indebted.
And lastly - whoever ordered the weather...

How I added 3 seconds on from morning to afternoon
I guess that's the riddle of the slug.

Not terribly relevant to the school, but the 3 of us were actually within .099 seconds raw time. You and Ben coned your best, but, we ALL backed up our best run with at least one other run that was within a few tenths. No flukes there, we were all getting a lot out of the car! I won't say we got "all", because I'm pretty sure the car had a 39.5 or better in it.Native wrote:Loren, Ben - you two make for excellent competition. Oh yeah, no question. There were at least 2 places I was on the gas too late, or lifted and didn't need to, and gave up time. I'd be a much bigger autocross threat if I could figure a course out in fewer runs than it actually takes me, which is usually about 2 more than we get at any given event.Loren wrote: I'm pretty sure the car had a 39.5 or better in it.

I tip my hat to my group 4 students. You guys and gals were showing some fantastic improvement throughout the day! I'm sure I've got an even bigger target on my back now. Who doesn't love to beat their instructor?

Hey, a little post-school study for y'all. If you haven't looked at this, or haven't looked at it RECENTLY, there's some really good info to be found Right Here.

Had a great time at the school! Even after two years of Autocross experience since my first novice school, the advanced group was well put together and I learned a few ways to improve.
Thanks to everyone involved in organizing the event and special thanks to Joe V, Joe B and Mike for sharing your collective experience

I enjoyed being part of it and I'm glad I could help. I forgot to thank both Joe B and Joe V for guiding me through the school too.
The system works really well, but it was my first time seeing it and they both made sure I never got lost.

Thanks to all the instructors and FAST team for putting this event on, I really learned a lot, first time I've gotten any criticism on my driving and it paid off
