Apparently only one morning group caught the rain. So take all the results with tongue in cheek if you were in the dry. Both afternoon run groups.
I was only in it for the fun this afternoon but I still would have lost to Jason by 0.1 sec in S2. For all I know he ran in the rain with AWD!! I'm sure it was greasy.
What I learned today due to Randy driving both my car and his back to back in the dry is that A. He is .9 sec faster than me in my car but more importantly he is 1.7 sec faster in his own car compared to mine and next season they are combining s1 and s2...yikes. Drew beat me by .8 sec in only one run in my car too. Those two guys are close to perfect. BUT not suspecting I would have to provide the only afternoon S2 car for my $10 challenge it wouldn't have cost me anything as I said they had to beat me by ONE second. Tada. Close but no cigar.
Mike Lawson is the only one who is competitive with S1 in an S2 car as far as I've seen. He's a nationally competitive driver in a SCCA legal stock car!!
So as terrible as the forecast was and I drove all the way there in a "driving" rain...moaning. It quit. I empathize with those whom got stuck in the rain but it happened to me twice in the afternoons killing my points for those events. It is what it is. Loren dragged out the driver's meeting long enough for us to watch the course dry faster than wet paint.
Thanks for all your efforts this competitive season has ended. Amazingly the RESULTS are all posted!! Ron and Loren are FAST.

Can't believe the 2nd heat of the morning was the only wet heat, and I got to get some experience racing in the rain. Was my first time on a wet course and it was a ton of fun. Drew took all of his runs in my car betting that the afternoon would be wet too (at least wasn't faster than me). Who would have guessed it was going to be dry.
Doug, would have loved the opportunity to relieve you of $10. Who knows, maybe I would have been slower or a dry course? Mike's run was wet too. Pretty sure he bends spacetime
Thanks for a great event/season!

thanks for the drive, doug. I owe you $10 and a lugnut. there was more in rx8, would of went faster without traction control on. it definitely has more power than last time I drove it.
shame I got a cone on my timed wet run, would of beat Dat by .6 seconds, I didnt even hear it :/ at least I'm competitive against him so I'll pat myself on the back. good thing it dried up, I felt 31s
Thanks to all the new peeps, it was a relatively smooth event, hope it was fun. cheaper than go karts, right? hope to see you guys out again.

Congrats are in order to Tyler Williams and Chase Helm for a job well done in M3 this morning. Tyler held to his lead over Loren in the championship hunt. Rob Ledwell showed up for one more event to secure his place over Sara Tinsley in S5 for the year, good battle by both right to the end. Philip Petrie had a good time making fun of my times this morning, I needed to stop using the brake pedal so much, Randy Barrera thought I was braking too much also.

You are the ONLY one to beat David in that RS fomoco from lederhosen land all year. I'll never understand why Dat is still stuck in BS/S1 because of a trunk kit that is allowed on the CS Toyota?? Must be because his Miata is a 2 seater instead of the unusable rear ones in the back of the Toyota?Rpwolf wrote: at least I'm competitive against him
You need some new wiggly treaded tires to slow you down. ONLY Elliot was in the 31's. You're dreamin' with that number. However, Drew felt there was an easy 33 in my RX8 too. He's usually right. He also was kicking his own butt about not saving 3 runs for the PM shift

what did drew get in your car anyways?

Man, I'm wiped out!
Huge thanks to the usual cast of characters, plus those who put in extra effort to help us accomodate the HUGE influx of first-time autocrossers in today's Late Session. In spite of that potential chaos, and a little bit of rain, the day progressed flawlessly!
We did have a course anomaly throughout the day. The course was set up as-designed in the morning, but sometime in the 2nd run group (when it got wet), the slalom cone spacing and offset got out of whack. The offset was obvious and quickly corrected. But, the spacing error went unnoticed until after the Late Session course walk was complete. At that point, it was 50:50 as to whether we should "correct" it to the way it was designed, or leave it as it was, because about half of the drivers had driven it each way. The decision was made to leave it, since all of the Late Session drivers (including that big group of noobs) had walked it that way.
Nobody would have noticed this unless they really paid attention in the MORNING course walk, or they drove in the first morning run group. It did change the "feel" of the course, though I'm not entirely sure it changed the overall run time. The original slalom was spaced 75-62-50-62-75, and set up so that if you entered on the left, you had a HUGE acceleration zone coming out of the slalom into the finish. You had that "pinch" of a 50' slalom section to get through, but once you were through it, you were on the gas through the finish. The unintentionally modified slalom was more like 75-62-62-62-75. So, you could carry more speed through the middle of it, but you weren't able to accelerate out of it as early, making that finish straight shorter. Net result... maybe it was faster, maybe it wasn't. Fastest Street Tire Time happened in the first run group, so there's that. (but, Chase is really, really fast...)
This is my personal excuse for the day. I designed the course, I knew it was SUPPOSED to have that pinch in the middle, AND I took an instructor run in the first run group, so I DROVE it that way once. Then I took my runs in the afternoon... and it was easier to drive... and I still gave up the speed in the middle of the slalom, because that's what I was SUPPOSED to do! As a result, I left a lot of time out there in the return slalom. Yep. That's my excuse. (I have others if that one is insufficient)
Anyhow, I hope all the noobs enjoyed their first autocross, and look forward to seeing them in September!

34.1 = same as you. So that would make it a "draw" not a drew since you "drew" first.Rpwolf wrote:what did drew get in your car anyways?
Next time you all will have to use your own cars. I'm on SSA and haven't gotten a raise in 12 years:(

Soroya nailed one run where she beat my best time in her car by 0.8 seconds. Watching her video, I think I was slightly faster on the way out. Maybe a tenth or two. She was tighter around the turn-around, enough to balance that out, plus maybe a little more. Meaning that if you drove that slalom flat-out vs. slowing in the middle... there was AT LEAST a half to be gained in it.twistedwankel wrote:That is really funny.Loren wrote: and I still gave up the speed in the middle of the slalom, because that's what I was SUPPOSED to do!I tapped the brakes where the 50ft section was supposed to be where I marked it on the paper. Don't think it cost me much time tho' and I didn't notice the change walking the course because there were different distances anyhow. You and Dan both beat me in my "sports car" all the same with the grocery getter. As did Soraya.
I think I've fallen into one of my old habits. I target a time, and if I acheive it, I relax. What I need to do instead is just drive the shit out of the damned course! Do what I can do, and ALWAYS strive to be a second faster, whether I think I can or not! In today's event, I thought my target was 34.8 (all I had to do today was beat Tyler... if I did, I finished 2nd for the season, if I didn't, I finished 3rd... that was my only concern today). I did 34.1 with a cone and thought I had it in the bag. Backed that up with a clean 34.2 on my 3rd run, and literally walked away. Wasn't going to take more runs, thought I had acheived my goal. Then I found out that I had misread Tyler's time, it was actually 33.8... so, I needed another 4/10. Opted to take those runs in an actual M3/M4 car, which is actually the closest thing to the FASTiva that I was supposed to be driving. So, even if it wasn't "the fastest class-eligible car that I could get my hands on", I think it was legit and the most appropriate thing for me to compete in today.
Congrats to Tyler Williams for edging me out for the 2nd Place season finish in M3! He earned it.

Afternoon turned out perfect. Good to see so many newcomers. Having five runs was nice. Thanks everyone.
I had a great second run, but it brought on overconfidence. Going out seemed so easy and fast, coming back not so much, for me. On run 4 it was either "thump thump thump thump" or "thump thump thump thump thump". I can't remember.
Thanks to Steve, made some progress this season on driving skills and I look forward to September.

Pretty sure Dat was running his daily driver/slower tires again. Not his race only tires. Last event we ran BS I thought I was getting better I asked him why he was slower and actually got beat? He told me about the tires and I went back to being slow again:(Rpwolf wrote: would of beat Dat by .6 seconds
