Points keeper needed

With the end of the '08 season, which is now in July, I'm giving up the job of points keeper, and awards giver-outer, and season awards coordinator (no I've not forgotten about awards for '07...really).

If anyone wants the job, now's the chance. If no one wants the job, we'll be running for bragging rights only.

I'll be happy to get whoever may volunteer up to speed, and I won't mind being the one to actually post the points table on the website, once someone prepares it.

This could also be an opportunity to change how we award points, but that would not be an individual's decision.

Anyone?

edit: tracking points, distributing awards, doing season awards - doesn't necessarily need to be a one person job...

If I do it it'll be like "Who's Line is it?" (or whatever it is called): the rules are made up and the points don't count.

The job is still available to someone who's interested in us having points and awards next year.

I would volunteer to do it but I'm not really sure that I am really experienced enough to do something like that. Perhaps next year after I will have been doing this longer...

Are there any kind of benefits to it? I suppose the points keeper could give Kenny the "Epic Fail" award at every event if so person deemed so award necessary...

EDIT: Kenny, you know I'm messing with you, but you totally owe Brandi some street credit. I had the awesome pic of your WRX that I took Saturday loaded up in photoshop with epic fail written on the bottom. She heard me laughing and ran in. She saw the image and said "Carl, no. No. That's not funny". Needless to say, the changes have been discarded... You have an ally... Did the gas fix that BTW?

Would the job be considered your work assignment per event? Not that I wouldn't help out anyhow on race day, I'm just wondering. I might be able to handle this now that my home office is slowly becoming a reality.

I can handle the points/pdf side of it if someone else wants to take care of planning awards?

Carl, and anyone else who may be interested:

As for the points. I have an Excel file. I manually enter names and points per the results from each event, and the file formula sums them up. I then do sort, by name and by points total. I then use PDFFactory software to print the file as a PDF. I then load it on to the website, and post the appropriate links. At the end of the year, I'll end up editing it to drop the lowest score (which for almost everyone will entail nothing becasuse the lowest score will be zero). That's the computer side, at least the way I do it. Whoever may take over can produce the table, any table, any way they want. I will continue to to convert it to PDF, unless you can get it to me that way and I will continue to upload it to the website and post the links.

Then there's the awards stickers. I make a list from the results file, write the name on an envelope, put the appropriate sticker in teh envelope, and hand 'em out.

Then there's the season awards. I'll take care of our about-to-end '08 season, so there's nothing anyone would have to do with that until July '09. As the Points Lord(s), you get to decide what the awards are and how they will be distributed

SO, you see, it's not anything that's "experience-based." It doesn't even take that much time...and anyone who is more computer-savvy than me might even find a way to automate it more than I have, which would make it even easier.

edit: +1 on Jamie's response above. This is a thankless volunteer job.

I know that the timer software can do points and stuff. I guess maybe its time to see just what that entails.

Hummm... I could have sworn I posted volunteering for this.

If you guys need the points done, I'd be happy to do it!

Just let me know my budget for picking out winner awards ;)

Ok. We have another volunteer!!!

Charles - you said you'd do points if someone does awards - you and Deadmeat wanna split it that way? Or is it all Deadmeat? (at least until Kenny automates it...)

Derek, it's all yours. Charles is certainly welcome to help, or vice versa. No difference to me.

Someone email or pm me if you want and assist getting started.

And thanks for offering to help!

deadmeat (Derek)

He's forwarded to me the table for the Oct. event, but I had a question for him before I posted it, and I haven't heard back from him yet.

Hey steve, sorry I havent replied to your email with the last question yet.

For some reason my verizon email account is locked *shrug*

I left all the other 1's off to, I guess make it "cleaner" if that makes any sense.

That, and I noticed you did it a few times with some of the other points tables, so I figured I could get away with it also ;)
