I think the concern was more wear and tear on the lot itself, but yeah, its a bummer. Also, 9/11 tribute car show? :barf:

If that's true. Fine. I thought the patrons of the DT complains that they couldn't park close to go sit and gamble on dogs

Wear and tear was the reason I was told they gave...personally, I suspect complaints from the clientele had as much to do with it, but that's just me. For a once-a-year memorial event, though, not even those folks will get any traction.

The official reason we were given was damage/wear to the pavement. I'm sure there's more to it than that. Everything from customer complaints to the fact that they surely make more with a wedding rental, and we interfered with that. They didn't make a whole lot of money from it, and it required staff support and hundreds of feet of banners (which they don't re-use, so it's an expense of probably $100-150/event), etc.

If you look at their parking lots during those times when they are busy... EVERY space is full, and people are parking in the grass, on the curbs, anywhere they can. I don't know how many people that is, but it's A LOT. (Wikipedia says that their record attendance was 12,746 in 2007) with a betting total of almost 11 million.

So, perhaps one of their less busy days the parking lot might be half full, maybe 5k people there? Maybe "only" $5M in bets? What's their take of that? A couple million? Plus however much money 5,000 people spend on drinks and food. That alone adds up to probably $100k.

Yeah, it's not hard to see them being uninterested in the $1,000 or so that we were willing to pay to use their parking lot.

Ya. I totally get the why. It's just somewhat funny to see basically a similar event at the site. (Causing the same problems they didn't want with us)

Their high attendance is when the horses are running there, which are times they won't rent the lot to us. No where near those number for off track betting. There is plenty of parking for their patrons during the times we are there. The people complaining and parking on the grass are doing so because they are lazy. They are the same people who will drive around the walmart parking lot for 15 minutes looking for a closer space when it would only take them 5 minutes to walk from the 1st space they come to.
Their loyal patronage are going to show up anyway, whether we are there or not. They should know that.
There may have been some issues with the wedding that one event that people started showing up for before we were done, but that is their own scheduling mistake.
So, yeah probably a combination of things that shouldn't be an issue, but wear and tear on their surface? Just, no.

Did you tell the the Fastiva isn't running anymore? Maybe it was scaring the children and they are just trying to be nice. :d
Maybe they are legitimately concerned about wear, whether it is happening or not. Doesn't really matter. It's their lot and they can rent to us or not. Their reason could just as well be "because screw you" and there is nothing we can do about it.

They/TBD aren't renting to the PCA either. Just so yall know. Nothing personal. They used to run there the day after FAST did.

And Brat N All dragway/ AKA Desota Raceway is under new ownership so who knows what will happen with them either.

Anyone win the megaball lately? Maybe Scott will pave a 100 lane escape rte all the length of FL? That will work.
