Doin' Brakes in the Groj Aug 18

Postby Loren » Sat Aug 11, 2018 9:52 pm

New season. Good time for new brakes!

Okay, in reality, I had to order some parts from Rock Auto for my truck (cuz Steve broke my ignition switch :whine: ) and wanted to make the most of my $11 shipping. They happened to have some good PowerStop ceramic pads for the Mirage for something like $35. Figured they had to be better than the crap that's on there. I've been meaning to flush and bleed the fluid for about a year, anyway.

So, I'm doing front brakes on the Mirage. Full flush & bleed. And if I can be bothered to do it, I'll at least inspect and lube the rear drum brakes.

Anybody that wants to do some brake work, or similar minor maintenance, or learn about such things, or just inspect your brakes, or just hang out... I'm in Safety Harbor. PM me for the address.

Garage door's open at 10am!

Hmm. Imma say, this is a legit possibility. i do need to change some oil .
I assume, of course, that your groj is an official used oil recycling facility.

My garage is an official oil spilling facility. The Advanced parts store in Oldsmar will take your oil, though. Just a couple miles away.

Doin' Brakes in the Groj Aug 18

Brake pads have arrived. Checked the groj and found that I have two pints of fresh Valvoline synthetic brake fluid. Wouldn't use it for a track day, but it's fine for street & autocross.

And I decided I should try changing the transmission fluid to see if it smooths out some of my shifts, and maybe makes it easier to find reverse. So, I ordered some Redline MT-85.

That's probably enough for my lazy ass to do in one day.

I'm a fan of not getting up stupid early when I don't have to.

Okay. Official start time: 10:00.

Expect there to be food (whether we go out, stay in, order pizza, or whatever... there will be food) somewhere around lunchtime.

So if I read this correctly it's fine if I bring my car over and we do a full bushing replacement in the rear? :-D

It's fine if you bring your car over. And if you can get your rear bushings done in a matter of about 6 hours with the help of whoever's there... sure.

I have no idea how long that job would take on your car. And I don't have a press.

So, tomorrow's the day. Who's coming? What kind of work are we doing?

I'll be out there at 10am. Will probably knock out the transmission fluid change first. Also need to inspect and lube some suspension parts. Maybe check the adjustment on the ball joints. Then I can get started on brakes.

Oh, and since chocolate chip cookies are not native to the Keto universe, Cathy is making some deviled eggs. With prosciutto. Which promise to be equally fattening, in a minimally carbohydrate kind of way.

I'll be a no-show.
The wife decided that I would rather rearrange furniture and clean the carpets this weekend.
