What a great little event!

Did you know it was the last event of the 2019 FAST Dunnellon Championship? Yep, it was event #5! We'll have to work up the final points and figure out who won, and stuff! Wow, it took a lot of research to get this right! I figured the Dunnellon locals knew what they were talking about when they said this was the 5th of 5 events. Nope!

There were originally 4 events as stated in the Dunnellon Championship Announcement. We added an event on December 1 (I think it was a dog track event that got moved), as noted in the Event Info for that event. So, this was the FOURTH of FIVE in the Dunnellon Championship, the last one will be in June. We'll still try to get the points updated "soon".

Small events like this are always a challenge because there sometimes just aren't enough workers to go around. We were in pretty good shape today (partly by cutting back to 4 course work stations), but a big reason that it all went so smoothly was YOU. Yes, YOU! Thanks for doing your part to keep the wheels turning.

Philip wasn't there, hope someone else shot a photo or two.

Looks like '8' was my number for the day... 8th in Pro class, overall, and Pax! Not bad for a 340 treadwear Summer tire. This was a fun balanced course and like most of these I leave wishing I had my big boy wheels and tires.

Pretty sure I hit more cones than all of you put together. Does that mean I win?

Wouldn't be too sure...Dave Marcus was using that electric car as a cone-plow, and then there was Ken's first run...I think he was up to 6 before he was called off-course and we stopped counting....

Nah. While you did cone every run, you only hit one or two cones on each run. And if I hadn't demonstrated to you that you were a foot away from the cones AS we were starting your first run... you'd have probably hit no cones... and been slow!

Updated first post with correct Dunnellon Championship info. Not the last event. One more in June.

Another entertaining and thoughtful course design at Dunnellon. It was fun overdriving it on my first two runs, even more fun getting the hang of smooth is fast. I think I connected pretty well going out but never got that diagonal wall coming back right. Picking the right line in the turnaround was a challenge for me as well.

Codriver Steve did prove that the wagon could get around it quickly, even with my dead weight in the car working against him. :salute:

I think our new guy in the GTI is a rising star!

Respectfully I think that’s one category I won hands down. [emoji817][emoji2369][emoji2357]

You all FAST folks are the best! Thank you for your support and participation. These events are just a blast!
Really appreciate everyone's help, especially with cleanup.

Sorry to tease about run numbers in the morning - as things unfolded, more would've just taken way too long. And I'm referring to those working the course (which is largely everyone). As it was, we aimed for 90 minute groups, and it actually was longer than that. Still, 6 45-second runs on a really fun and strategic course worked out well!

I drove the snot out of Bill's car, and didn't cone my best run! I actually only coned once - I guess I wasn't trying hard enough.
I did one really-and-for-true instructor run with Julio in his Miata. He's got it set up nicely - pretty neutral, maybe a bit looser in front than rear. He's gonna be a contender as he keeps learning... :thumbwink:

I had no issue with the small cones.

After watching a bunch of video, I wasn't as happy. Over six runs, I just wasn't getting as close to the 12" cones as the 18" ones -- don't know whether that was a difference in perception due to the height or what, but it was there. No doubt, I'd learn to get close to the 12" cones over time, and start clipping the 18" cones everyone else uses. I vote for sticking with the standard for the sport.

We're going to test with some short cones at least one more time. Need more than one data point.

Personally, I hit a couple cones that I didn't realize that I'd hit. (and they weren't the small cones) Otherwise, I honestly didn't even notice the small cones when I was driving.

I'm willing to try another event, but I would suggest skipping the small cones with the next open event. I won't be there anyway...
