FAST Open Autocross - Jun 29 - Dunnellon

We learned last month that we CAN do a FAST Open at Dunnellon, and circumstances dictate that we need to do it again. This will be your standard split-session Open event, just with a lower entry limit. That means if you're chasing points, you should be sure to register early. With only 48 entries per session, it just might sell out.

The schedule is also a little different with later start times than typical. Be sure to look at that.

Registration & Event Info

Basic event details:
  • This is a FAST Open autocross, that means that it is open to all licensed drivers.
  • Novices and first-timers are encouraged to enter!
  • Pre-registration is REQUIRED for all Drivers AND Guests. We can't let you in the gate if you're not registered.
  • Driver entry fee is $40, guest entry fee is $9.
  • This will be a split-format event. You can enter the Early session 8:30am-1pm or the Late Session 1:30pm-6pm, or both.
  • Snacks and cold beverages will be provided for all registered drivers and guests.

Just repeat the June 15th map, send it out after June 15th. See if anyone notices. See if times improve.

I do like me some sweepers. Here's the course map!

This one is set up to allow two cars on course with a fairly quick start interval. Should get us 5-6 runs!

Station 4 bring your motion sickness pills, you're going to get dizzy.

Pro-tip: You don't have to stand where your station is shown on the map. The map is just a general guide to show you the area that you're covering, and where we think a good place would be. Much depends on the exact layout, conditions, and how folks are driving on that day. If you're working a turn-around, and nobody's hitting the entry cone, but people are hitting the exit cone... you could position yourself safely out in the grass closer to the cone that's getting hit.

Just make sure you're never putting yourself in an unsafe place. Like, on this course, you wouldn't want to be off in the grass where the car is FLYING across course toward the turn-around and might miss their braking zone (or opt to not brake and think they're going to make it) and end up spinning towards you in the grass.

There's almost always some flexibility in worker positions. If we put Station 4 off to one side on the map, people would think "nobody is covering the other side". Putting the station in the middle just makes your area of responsibility more clear. We rely on experienced course workers to do what they need to do and just be safe about it. 8-)

Early Session is sold out, and registration closes Wednesday evening.

Do the registration thing!

(and be sure you know where your rain gear is)
